OK, I asked this a lil while back and was told to post a more detailed question so here goes. I am in North Louisiana and the time is about 3:30 AM. I am facing East. Assuming that directly above me is 0 degrees at about 5 degrees in front of me is the Little Dipper. Just about directly above me. Going down in a straight line from the Little Dipper, still facing East, at about 45 degrees I get to the Big Dipper. Continuing down in a straight line from the Big Dipper I get to a very bright star right above the treetops at about 70 degrees. The Little Dipper, Big Dipper, and this star are all lined up with the Little Dipper being about half again as far from the Big Dipper as this star is. Also going down this imaginary line this bright star is the first bright star below the Big Dipper. Can someone tell me the name of this star (or possibly planet)?

Hello... CMBR was produced from the big bang 13.7 billion years ago, and are still detected today all around the univerise. They all posses the same exact temperature.

For me, it makes sense that they have the same exact temperature, since they were all emitted 13.7 billions years ago, thereofre, cooling at the same rate.

However, for scientists, its a "problem" that all these radio waves have the same exact temperature. They call this problem the "Horizon Problem"....

Why is it a problem that they posses the same exact temperatures?

A bob of mass m is suspended from a fixed point with a massless string of length L (i.e., it is a pendulum). You are to investigate the motion in which the string moves in a cone with half-angle theta.

What tangential speed, v, must the bob have so that it moves in a horizontal circle with the string always making an angle theta from the vertical?

Express your answer in terms of some or all of the variables m, L, and theta, as well as the acceleration due to gravity g.

I know the potato trick. Sometimes I think it works, sometimes I dont. The other day I was welding with another guy on the inside of a 12x32 steel tank. We both got flash in our eyes but my eyes were killing me the next evening. The worst I ever got. That morning I couldnt open my eyes, couldnt sleep, couldnt stop them from tearing. I just wish there was something I could do if it happens again (besides be careful and not let it happen again). I have to work fast and in 12 hours I cant shield my eyes every time someone else strikes an arc.

Two masses are connected by a light string passing over a light, frictionless pulley as in Figure P5.63. The m1 = 5.45 kg object is released from rest at a point 4.00 m above the floor, where the m2 = 2.55 kg object rests.

Figure P5.63

(a) Determine the speed of each object when the two pass each other.
3.80 m/s
(b) Determine the speed of each object at the moment the 5.45 kg mass hits the floor.
5.33 m/s
(c) How much higher does the 2.55 kg mass travel after the 5.45 kg mass hits the floor?
m

When dealing with cubics (ax^3 + bx^2 + cx +d) are there plug and chug formulas avalible to find:
1) Max and Min values (ie the turning points of the graph)
and
2) The area under the curve
Right now I have about 30+ cubic equations that I have the coefficients for but need to find 1 and 2. I dont want to go through each one by taking the derivitives etc ... I am just wanting to set something up in Excel where I can place the coefficients in certain columns and I will recieve the results for 1 and 2 automatically.

Any ideas??

Any and all help wanted.

Thanks in advance :)
