convert to mixed fraction
ex.:
3 1/4 = 13/4
1 5/8 = 13/8
then find the LCM
ex:
LCM of 4 and 8 is 8
how?
find their multiples
4 = 4, 8, 12, 16, ...
8 = 8, 16, 24, ...
least common multiple
in this case, 8
multiply 13/4 by 2/2 (doesnt change the value bcoz 2/2=1)
26/8
now, subtract the two fractions
26/8 - 13/8 = 13/8
how many 8s do you have in 13? 1 right? and 5 was left
so you have 1 5/8
now try solving the other problems :)

1> convert all fractions to improper fractions
2> find the least common denominator (LCD) for each problem
3> multiply each fraction in the problem by some x/x to make its denominator the LCD
4> subtract the numerators and place this over the LCD
5> reduce the fraction so created
6> re-convert to a proper fraction
EG:
3 1/4 is 13/4; 1 5/8 is 13/8. LCD is 8
mulltiply 13/4 by 2/2 to get 26/8, subtract 13/8 like so: (26-13)/8
13/8 is the answer; it's already in lowest terms
re-convert to 1 5/8. Done.

3 1/4 = (13/4)
1 5/8 = (13/8)
(13/4) - (13/8) = (26/8) - (13/8) = (13/8) = 1 5/8
---------------------------------
15 1/3 = (46/3)
6 1/2 = (13/2)
(46/3) - (13/2) = (92/6) - (39/6) = (53/6) = 8 5/6
---------------------------------
12 2/5 = (62/5)
4 3/4 = (19/4)
(62/5) - (19/4) = (248/20) - (95/20) = (153/20) = 7 13/20
------------------------------------
12 5/8 = (101/8)
3 3/4 = (15/4)
(101/8) - (15/4) = (101/8) - (30/8) = (71/8) = 8 7/8
