Do we replace the oil with anything in order to balance the equilibrium of the planet, such as water or some other substance. I often wonder if the world will tip off balance because we have taken some of the weight out of it.

Given that certain areas of the earth are large producers of oxygen (i.e. Tropical Rain forests) and other areas are not (Moab, UT (desert)), does there exist oxygen gradients between these two sources. How do they equalize? Is it noticeable? And will there be a business in bottling air from Brazil and shipping it to Moab?

i dont even know where to begin:

The human population of the world was about 6 billion in the year 2000 and increasing at the rate of 1.3% a year. Assume that this population will continue to grow exponentially at this rate. Determine the year in which the population of the world will reach 7 billion.

any help would be greatly appreciated!!! (i need to show work also)

My Ph.D is going terribly, I've made little or no progress in my first year and have not even started the field based part of my research (on a native mammalian species). I feel that I'm doing it for all the wrong reasons; so that I don't let down family and friends, I'm terrified that they would think less of me if I was to pack it all in. I don't feel the excitment and joy of learning that I had as an undergraduate; I hate the fact that I've become unenthusiastic about something I had always been passionate about. I worry if I did quit I would regret it for the rest of my life. I feel that I won't have a chance in hell of getting a job after the Ph.D and wonder why I'm doing it. My academic supervisor has become uninterested in helping me and has been totally disinterested in the whole endevour, I'm also getting little support from technical staff in the department, who 'bend over backwards' for some other postgrads. I'm terrified because I don't know what I would do if I quit.

Has anyone here patented anything?

Is anyone familair with the patenting process?

Is there a way to get money to patent something if you are broke? What is the cheapest you can patent something?

If you have developed a product is there a way you can sell it without having it patented yet? Is that called "patent pending"?

I've read that the Toyota Prius uses a combustion engine to charge the battery for its electric engine, but is it possible to use the motion of the cars wheels, once it is running, to charge the battery instead. It would require a lot less gasoline in the long run. Wouldn't it? I've never taken a physics class, so maybe this isn't even possible. I don't know. What do you guys think?

We 'see' objects because they either 'emit' or 'reflect' light. Lets say there are two balls of equal size one 10 feet away another 30 feet away. Both the balls reflect light, what information on the "photons" (or waves) say that this light was reflected from which object and how does it tell the retina how far the object is?

They say that 96% of the Universe matter is missing because Stars on the edge of galaxies does not reduce in acceleration like planets in our Solar System does. Then they created this bolony dark energy and dark matter that no one can see or measure!

But you don't even have to go as far as Einstein. Newton's law already explains this - Follow me:
F = - G(m1*m2)/r^2, right!

Newton's law says that:
"If r changes proportionally very little during an object's travel – such as an object falling near the surface of the earth – then the acceleration due to gravity appears very nearly constant". and "If m1 is negligible compared to m2, small masses would have approximately the same acceleration".

Therefore, assuming there's a black hole on the center of the galaxy, it will make the Star's mass negligible since the black hole density is infinite at the singularity. Therefore: acceleration is constant. No need of dark stuff :-)

Since I'm not nearly smart as those guys, What am I missing?
