Trilobites have unique eyes formed from calcite prisms. I heard a rumor that some of these lenses are so well presevered that they could be used for camera lenses.

...and still get decent grades?

I'm asking because I was enrolled in an intro chem class this summer. However I missed 3 classes (including 2 labs) due to a cold. That's too many days to miss during a 6-week summer semester, so I dropped the class, rather than take zeros for things that I wouldn't get to make up.

I tried to sign up again for intro chemistry for this Fall. Yet there was only one section on the schedule for that class, and it was filled. Don't know why they only had one section for a lab science class, when it's such a big requirement.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone else skipped over intro chem and still did just fine. Besides, some academic advisors told me that I might not necessarily need the intro class.

By the way, I'm pretty good with science...generally an A student with science and other subjects. Every once in a while, I get a B. That's just to give an idea of my academic abilities.

Thanks, but I am NOT interested in the run of the mill regurgitated stuff. … ***I am looking for an elegant conceptual definition.*** … Like, for instance, the conceptual definition of gravity as the curvature of spacetime in the vicinity of a massive object, as set forth by General Relativity. Can you give an analogous conceptual definition of the field itself? Again, I am NOT interested in the traditional manifestations and definitions of the field such as lines of force, or its mathematical definition, or even more enigmatic exposé’s like: field is the region of space characterized by a physical property, such as gravitational or electromagnetic force or fluid pressure, having a determinable value at every point in the region, etc.

Evolution is about chaos turning up into order and design, while the laws of thermaldynamics say that all nature is going down from order and design into chaos. How can they both be true?

ive been finding a lot of interesting little rocks on the beach (southern maine usa). their size ranges from penny-size to the size of a roll of scotch tape. i can always fit them in my hand. theyre always black. the rocks are shiny/glassy; sometimes theyve been worn down by the beach and are a little coarse, but if i break them open its always very shiny. there are no hard edges, theyre generally smooth. very light and soft: i go to hit one with a hammer and its smashes into powder. no holes, no grains or crystals, no layers, no smell: its just black, glassy rocks. at first i thought they were some kind of burnt wood, charcoal, but theyre too hard. then i thought it might be some kind of space rock: it looks like shiny space-rock, but its much too light and soft, no metal inside. ive been looking it up on the net, following these charts and it keeps coming up as (and looks like) obsidian, but its way too light and soft! i have no idea what it is! ask for specific details!

If you send me a site with the pictures and their names I will give you 10points. Thanks.
