Well, in the humane category we can place Buddhism, Unitarianism, and maybe some varieties of Judaism, Jainism and Hinduism.
Then you have the inhumane religions of war: Christianity and Islam.

I don't see that written anywhere in the books themselves, which means that some external person just made it up at some point. I don't think the authors of all those different books were making that claim. I think they were just transcribing some stories passed around orally that were used to entertain ... much like the Odyssey. Or they were writing down rumours. But there's nothing about it that human beings of that era couldn't invent. Now if the stories had talked about bacteria, the planet Neptune or some other things that nobody could know about until centuries later, THEN you'd have at least some kind of argument.

Nope. There are really old stories about multiple gods too! And since your Western religions are based on some really old stories (the Tanakh aka Old Testament) about a particular god (along with a few neighboring gods) there's nothing more compelling about it than there is about the Iliad or the Egyptian Book of the Dead.

I think that it is very disrespectful and a disgrace myself and a little difficult to explain to a small child who asks about it. Regardless of your political views, this is clearly unethical.

Seriously how could this be accomplished without it turning into another Iraq, though probably worse. Our troops are doing triple deployments. Would everyone support the draft? Should we just give Blackwater more money to recruit a whole mercanary army from around the world? We of course dont have that money so we would have to borrow more. Maybe we should raise taxes so we can pay for it instead of our children. Maybe we should just bomb and bomb and bomb them until they behave. Of course terrorists will stay away because its not like a war torn unoccupied country is ripe with angry youth that just need a direction.
So tell me, logically how could it be accomplished? Give me examples I could think about. Enlighten me.
Please dont rant about me being a commie or left wing nut. That helps no one. I am looking for opposing thought out arguments that may help sway my way of thinking on this issue.

Are you okay with our enemies torturing OUR soldiers?

Turnabout is fair play, isn't it? If we think it's okay to torture OUR prisoners, shouldn't we also think it's okay for our enemies to torture the men and women of our military?

1980s?
Mortgage backed securities were the cause of the failure of many savings & loans across the country in the 1980s. Billions of dollars of deposits were lost, which lead to a government bailout and a recession.
Today, we are facing exactly the same scenario only on a much greater scale. Hundreds of billions of $ will be lost worldwide in this latest mortgage scam. The only difference is these loses will not come from federally insured deposits. The result, however, will be the same. Investment capital will dry up and a robust economy will stall.
Why are we facing this problem again? Did we not learn anything the first time around?

Let Me Ask You Something Else --- When's The Last Time You Ever Read "The Gift Of The Magi" ? Hmmmmmm ?? Have You EVER Read It ? The Author Is O Henry, and it's a short story that tells of the love of a poor couple who each sell the only thing they have in order to buy a Christmas present for the other . I won't give away the whole story but in the end they discover that 'material things' mean NOTHING , and it's really only their LOVE that really counts .

So . . . How Have We Become So Materialistic ?
