We have very polarizing issues on the table. You can not feel half way about things such as abortion, global warming, gay rights, the Iraqi War. When people are polarized, no amount of debate is going to change their minds, they have already made them up and will staunchly defend their position, right or wrong. When pressed they get angry and like most arguments based on opinions will try to result to violence. What we should concentrate on are issues that we can at least agree, like immigration reform, tax reform, social security reform, health care reform, and securing our borders. But those are not the "hot topics" that get an eruption from the other side, so instead we will continue to go for the polarizing questions and answers.

Edit: I think moodyred is cute and smart.

Oh Yes!! I was talking to my Retired Uncle who was a farmer. He believes all illegals should be educated, then out the other side he wants the gov. to donate this space for a monument of the old timey farm machines. I asked why free education he said well my daughter adopted a child from Guatemala and she is so smart that at 5 she explained metamorphism to me. So really you have a biased opinion. respectfully you also want the gov. to donate land for a project that is for your desires. He was not real happy and hung up on me.
So for now on I do not talk politics to many people because it ends up a sore subject.
Instead I get on Y/A and explain my views.

Yes, my brother. He is a Liberal. He hates the Bush administration like he hates Lima beans, but worse. He has called Bush a murderer with no foundation, no proof, no reason. He has slapped me before when I have defended Bush. Of course he was excused (and not kindly) from my home. I have not allowed him to return again without our mother present.
To his hatred, I have no clue, except that even as a child, he hated anything opposed to him, and has taken it out physically on me, my whole life. I truly believe that my brother will say and do anything that goes against what his so-called loved ones believe is right. My mother and I are both Republican. He is also a gay man. Yet a seriously potentially violent man. He has spit on my son, who is now only 10. Held my son down, and laughed at him while my son screamed to be let up. Cursed me in front of my family for being a Republican Nazi, which is of course false. All I can say, is Liberals that I know have a major mental problem!

That is why I do not discuss politics with liberals.

My favorite liberal comments are

While making an argument for X, they mention Y, Z, A, and B.
Bringing up Limbaugh, Hannity, Bush, etc.

A good healthy debate is always welcomed with those who are open-minded and who want to hear what the pro's and con's of every issue is. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who are intensely closed-minded and regardless of what facts you present to them to back your opinion -they will not budge because they have a predetermined truth established in their own minds and nothing you can say will change that.

Oh yes! Generally from those who feel they are entitled to the benefits of my hard work.

When you do show them facts, they complain that the source is not viable. It seems their sources are always right and the sources I site, which are several, are always wrong.

The reddness of their face, and pulsating neck veins causes me to cease the discussion for the fear that they may have a stroke.

Oh yeah! And the number of e-mail attacks I get from those who profess themselves to be "tolerant" is unbelievable. The other day, I apparently upset someone with an answer and was given a "violation" notice stating mine was neither an answer nor a question. REALLY? Me, I LOVE quoting facts and siting sources.

If you think it's bad in person, you should come to the 360s! I think that people tend to invest a lot of ego in their own ideas. Their ideas give them a sense of security, and when someone argues with them, they feel threatened. Nobody likes to be wrong.

Yeah, plenty of times. It's why I stopped having debates with liberals. ChiGuy is the only liberal I've seen on here who actually discusses. That isn't to say that I agree with him on everything, but at least you can discuss politics with him and he doesn't go off the deep end.
