He knows damn well he can't "win" in Iraq now. It's like fighting an earthquake. The vast majority of Iraqis and now americans are against it. Bush is in a lose lose position. Is he finally doing the right thing?

Should the New York Times go on the highest terror alert?

I was just watching a program produced from a local freedom center. That's a museum that is dedicated to telling the story of slavery in America. They focus on the undergroud railroad etc. They fail to mention the lives these slaves had prior to entering American. The vast majority were already slaves in Africa and many were sold by other Africans to European slave traders. The fact is their lives improved a great deal by coming to America..that was one lucky ticket. Looking at the condition of Africa today with the corruption it is no wonder why we don't see a massive exodus or even a tribble to return to the land of stavation and murderous war Lords. When my ancestors came to America they endured great hardships and discrimination that they over came with hard work and sheer determination to succeed. No one held a protest march, No one demanded special employment laws...they walked forward, men led their families, mothers loved their children.

Where am I wrong? (DETAILS)

There are those on the right who say that socialism leads to dictatorship and economic and social ruin, giving Russia as a prime example.

But my arguement is in an advanced political system like we have in the west, with over a century of democratic institutions, Socialism can be achieved through the ballot box and can remain a fair and just system because of the very nature of these democratic rights we all come to take for granted.

I believe a democratic Socialist world under the control of workers would advance mankind to a more higher level than the corrupt, unfair system we have at present. We would could put an end to war and with a planned economy we could concentrate on ending decease and poverty. These goals can only be achieved under democratic socialist workers control.

So please put Russia, Cuba and any other so-called socialist regime out of your mind, they were backward countries and their leaders after their revoltions were not democratic socialists.

My arguement is this: Almost all of these countries artificially created from the aftermath of WW I - from the Ottoman Empire -have so many ethnic and cultural divisions that they can't be viable with out an internal police force to keep things in check. Yugoslavia and Palistine are two examples. When the British created Iraq and gave it to King Fiesal in 1919 , ( not sure of the date), it was done with total disregard to ethnic, cultural and tribal territorial identities. I don't ever see this region being a nation on its own.
