More than two parties and/or campaign finance reform is the answer.

Unfortunately our bi-party system means the Republicans can bait people with moral issues (homosexuality & abortion, for example) but turn around and do nothing on the moral front (saving the bait for next time) while their ultra-rich, plutocratic power base gets plenty of return on their campaign contributions (tax cuts for the rich- the switch).

Campaign finance reform could be a band-aid until we can open-up the political process to more than two parties.
