I stumbled on this very interesting article whilst doing a news search.

I'm going to go to our local small town newspaper and apply for a job that they had listed in their paper. They say they would like applicants to know Quark and Photoshop. Though it isn't required, and that creativity and design ability are a plus.

I do not have any work experience at all in this area. But I have Photoshop that I use at home ( I was planning on learning it to do photo restoration). And people tell me I am very creative. My question is - should I take in a couple of examples of what I have done on Photoshop? I have some pictures where I overlayed my kids photos over a mountain stream and I added text with my greeting card program.

And do you know what Quark is?

Sorry I asked this twice, but I think I should have put this under Journalism.

Why does the news broadcast want to sell the audience on the fact that every person on camera are all buddies. I personally wouldn't care if they acted like they were co-workers, and didn't always consider each other amusing chums. I don't always come up with a great segue when transitioning topics with my friends.

Many people don't even know Al Qaeda #2 and like Yahoo and every other major media outlet post this kind of crap. Rise up against Israel? Why would you speak out for terrorists? I don't care and like many people here could give a rats *** about some guy in a turban who has no credibility whatsoever to the average American. Yet, terrorist propoganda is constantly thrown in the local media. Al Qaeda #2 and #4 and #2000 says this, says that, stop posting this crap. How does this help the average news reading yahooligan??? It doesn't, so stop being a spokesman for terrorism.

I read recently that " newspapers and specially TV news have the power, and use it, to change the way we see the news. And specially in cases of conflicts and wars, reading/seeing too much of the news can stop people of thinking for themselves about the situations and just take it like they see it" (paraphrasing)
It kept me thinking about it... so I'm looking for new input and ideas.
What do you think about this? Is good to kept oneself on the top of the news or sometimes is better to just know the bottom line of things that are happening and try to know more about it from other sources?

As most of you know, many news stations such as Cnn, ABC, CBS, always show one side of a story. I was briefly watching FOX when the Iraqi PM made his 30 minute speech, and their were still Democrats who think we should have never invaded Iraq. And this was after the Iraqi PM thanked us like 20 times, for standing by his country when know one else would!!! Democrats can be a real pain in the *** sometime. Now i'm not talking about all Democrats but, still Democrats don't think. Here we have the Iraqi PM thanking the US, and the Dems are criticizing him!!! People tend to forget democrarcy take time to set up.

Suppose we would have give up during America's Revoultion and gave in to Britain. Britain did of course have the most powerful army and navy back then. Where would America be today? The way the Dems are telling everyone to give up on the this Middle east war, they sound like just the people that would have given up on the American Revoulution. People tend to forget about History
