Walter Cronkite did when John F Kennedy died. It was one of the most compelling moments on television, ever.

The bubble headed bleach blonde comes on at 5 she would be able to learn the airplane crash with a gleam in her eye... there is not any place for humanity in a newscast. Their interest is to checklist the information. basic. as quickly as they start up sharing their emotions and thoughts approximately an journey, they have spiralled right down to fact...and that's not what a newscast is all approximately.

Isn't that a line in a song by Jack Johnson? The News.
A billion people died on the news tonight
but not so many cried at the terrible sight
well mama said, "it's just make believe,
you can't believe everything you see
so baby, close your eyes to the lullabies
on the news tonight"
Who's the one to decide that it would be alright?
To put the music behind the news tonight?
well Mama said, "you cant believe everything you hear
the diagetic world is so unclear so baby, close your ears
on the news tonight, on the news tonight
The unobtrusive tones on the news tonight."
And Mama said, mmmmm-mmmmm
"Why don't the newscasters cry when they read about people who die?
At least they could be decent enough to put just a tear in their eyes"
and Mama said, "it's just make believe you can't believe everything you see
so baby, close your eyes to the lullabies on the news tonight."

Bcoz its not a soap opera man. If they start crying who will read the news. Reality is harsh and you should learn how to embrace it. And newscasters dont think when they are reading the news off of a screen in front of them unless its Jim Carrey. If they do they will miss their cue and maybe then they will start to cry.

Programmed to not cry.My stepfather did the news for many years. He took us to a lot of calls to photograph some stories.usually he would get this call on his car radio and we would just be there going to eat supper out or something and we had to go to these.I swear I got immune to them myself, sort of.I am never one to hang out now at these tragic events.I am so not star struck or whatever compels folks to these awful things.I probably should write a book, though.Usually I was hiding on the floorboard because I was young and never could get used to the folks saying,'take my picture" and I was really embarrassed when stepdad had to take me to school, with newstation call letters emblazoned on outside of car.Just a day in the life,I suppose.

several people broke down during Katrina and 9/11 . . . depends on the story. Death is part of life, and a reporters job is to keep it together.

Do you cry every time you read about someone dying? I hear/see it all the time. I get very emotional when its a child, but I dont cry unless I know them personally.

They are reporters and their job is to get the news to the public without emotion are bias.
As a newspaper reporter, some stories really suck to have to write about, but it's my job. Just because reporters seem to have no emotion doesn't mean they're not tearing up inside.
