I'm sorry that I can't help with any information other than what you've already been given. Contacting the registrar of births, deaths and marriages at the Newcastle registery Office, usually found in the town centre and always in the phone book. Good luck in your search.
I'd just like to say that there have been a number of particularly rude and unneccessary answers to this question. There are 100's, if not more, questions on "Answers" who WANT people to be rude to them. So why poke fun at genuine requests like this one? Honestly! Some of these people have the brains of a rocking horse!

Read the hatched, matched and dispatched columns in the Newcastle local papers... the births, marriages and deaths (obituaries) in shorthand!

All local newspapers have an obituries section. It's not particularly accurate as not all deaths are listed, but it's a good place to start your search.

They are not listed online Im afraid.
You will have to do it the old fashioned way, buy the local papers for that week, or contact the local registrar
