34,452 Iraq civilians said killed in '06 By HURST, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Twin car bombs tore through a leading Baghdad university as students left classes Tuesday in the deadliest attack in Iraq in nearly two months, and the United Nations reported 34,452 civilians were slain last year, nearly three times more than the United States government reported.

A total of 142 Iraqis were killed or found dead Tuesday, in what appeared to be a renewed campaign of Sunni insurgent violence against Shiite targets. The sharp uptick in deadly attacks coincided with the release of U.N. figures that showed an average of 94 civilians died each day in sectarian bloodshed in 2006. This proves the United States is going down like Vietnam. This is very shameful.

Majority of US women living without spouse
Tue Jan 16, 10:26 AM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - For the first time, a majority of American women are living without a spouse, media reported.

The New York Times, which based its report on an analysis of census results, said 51 percent of women in 2005 reported living without a spouse, up from 35 percent in 1950 and 49 percent in 2000.

"Coupled with the fact that in 2005 married couples became a minority of all American households for the first time, the trend could ultimately shape social and workplace policies, including the ways government and employers distribute benefits," the newspaper said.

This story includes an 'evil' character named Michael (possibly Michael Devlin) and a character named Shawn Devlin (an possible alias of Shawn Hornbeck during the four-and-a-half years he was kidnapped). Does anyone know who wrote this story and why it has so many strange details in common with the Michael Devlin, Shawn Hornbeck, and Ben Ownby case? Copy and paste this link and read the story.....

The premise of "reporting the news" is supposed to be that people want, to steal a line from an old television show, "just the facts". However, it is often difficult to determine the difference between "facts" and "opinions", especially since reporters, either network or print, may be held to certain standards based upon where they are choosing to report, and based upon what they choose to omit from their stories which, in many cases, is more important than what they choose to include in their stories.

So clearly, there is media bias. My question is not, "Does it exist?" My question is "Why does it exist?" What purpose is served by their being media bias?

Serious answers only, please.

Could Michael Devlin have met both of these kids online and decided to kidnap them? Shawn seemed to have a lot of contact with the online community while he was living with Devlin... I wonder if he was watching Ben Ownby for some time.

Yet Yahoo Answers allow every derogatory remark about the President of the United States of America ? Interesting how that would not be allowed in other countries but hate is intensified in the USA towards anyone who is sitting in the President's House.... that sucks ! I remember the hate over Clinton and now Bush. What's wrong with you all ? Watch this QUESTION of mine will be deleted in 3 minutes. Freedom of the USA is gone down the drain using free-speech selectively eh ?.... WELL with Yahoo in charge, we're becoming like Yahoo's head honchos dealings with China's government..... they like heads that roll so long as it's not theirs

Stanley Crouch is an African-American newspaper columnist.

This is one young man that is going to go far even if he's not black like Stanley Crouch. The fact that he is black should not even come into play. Do NOT judge on the color of his skin BUT listen to what he is saying. He sounds like a young man who's seen something of this world while a young kid, he stated "It made me mindful of the huge gaps in opportunity that exist in many countries of the world. It also made me appreciate how deeply impoverished people can be -- how issues of corruption can thwart opportunity," and then he goes on to say "There is not a black America, and a white America, a Latino America, and Asian America -- we are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America,"

Many of the posts regarding the nightmare of Shawn are repugnant at best. He has lived through years of fear and separation from his family at such a young age - and survived. He is extraordinary.

I wonder how many people posting here have lived through a single minute of the terror he felt for the past 4+ years. And yet thoughtless anonymous opinions are spat about and blind points of view are on display for the world to read.
Yahoo states (http://docs.yahoo.com/info/values/) "We share an infectious sense of mission to make an impact on society".
"Yahoo is also committed to...inspire people to make a positive impact on their communities" (http://yhoo.client.shareholder.com/press/overview.cfm). Listed are affiliations with NPO's such as BBBS and Missing Children Alerts.

I can't help but wonder...if Yahoo TRULY cares about children...why is it hosting material that hurts them?
Shawn and other abused children most likely have access to the internet. Heaven forbid they find this.

What about backpackers, laborers, people who lived before the 20th century.

It's pretty sad that they think 7-10lbs is a health risk. People have been lifting heavier weights for thousands of years.

Maybe it's the fact that they DON'T lift things that is hazardous.
