There is no clog, because cold plain water pumped out of washer machine works fine. This all started happening when an adaptor was added to pvc drain pipe to accomidate a discharge from water purifing system

My house is about 10 years old, and my husband and I bought it three years ago. Our water bill has been normal, at least I thought it was normal, until this summer when it skyrocketed. I thought it was maybe due to the fact that my husband accidentally left the sprinkler in the backyard on for over 12 hours.

In past summers, our bill would go up to about $150 or so a month, mostly due to watering the lawn. In July this year the bill was $120...and in September it went up to $700! In October the bill was $277. I'm nervous that we've got an underground leak someplace, but I have no idea how to go about finding out. Do I contact the water company to come find it? Do I have to call a contractor? I don't see any standing water anywhere, we don't have a basement, and the garage is bone dry.

We have an 18" deep "pond", 60" in diameter. We know the one Koi should be able to overwinter (zone 7b) but can the little goldfish? We have a small fountain but no heater. Our fancy small goldfish has lasted through the heat of summer - what low temp can he take or must we bring him in?

I see commercials all the time for companies that sell water softening systems. Down here in Florida, one of the big companies is Southern Water. I've been slightly interested in this and have wondered how much they are, but dont really have time or any interest in a sales person coming to my home. I just want to know if its something I can afford or not. I'm sure its a monthly fee along with a one time installation charge, but I dont even know where to begin guessing. Can anyone tell me how much it costs to install these things and what kind of monthly costs are involved? Anyone that have one? Or even just a best estimate? Thanks.

Any UK Floorlayers or Carpetfitters able to offer advice on applying a`Wicks` Laytex self levelling compound over a mastic asphalt sub-floor!

The instructions state -`subfloor must be clean dry free froom any loose material and contaminatants such as grease or thick adheasive residue and then to P.V.A.

Now, here is my delima, the sub floor had been completly painted right up to skirtings with a vinyl silk emulsion, using pan scourers I have in a fashion removed some and its difficult and I am worried I may make whats left unstable for the compound to grip. Consequently, am I fine to leave the paint {paint is in very good condition} on and use the self levelling compound over the top or best to continue to remove paint?

Answers appreciated thanks

we have been given a quote for some brick work, basically we need half a patio door filled in (approx 4ft by 8ft) and then half a wall where the old back door was, as a window will be going in at the top (3ft x 4ft) both walls will consist only of one wall being built (ie only 1 brick thick) if that makes sense ?

Hubby is doing all the mixing up/labouring and we are supplying all the bricks etc.

We have been quoted a price of £300 and we do not know if this is realistic, as it would only be a days work (if that)

any thoughts would be appreciated ~ Thanx

Ok, rebuilding the kitchen/living room after Katrina. Medium brown wooden floors in kitchen, light wood cabinets, black counter tops, white molding. The kitchen is melted within the living room which has brown carpet and new furniture which we have yet to pick....what color should I paint the walls??? I just tried dark grey and I love the color but I don't think it matches the wood color...

A friend of mine is blind and soon moving into her own flat for the very first time. She has plenty of tools to assist her in her daily tasks, she does NOT need more of those. She is just looking for some creative ideas on decorating her new place.

Framed pictures and color schemes are obviously out!

Any suggestions?
