We just bought a house that was built in 1876. Our wood work is ornate with lots of detail, however, someone painted it all white : ( I have begun the task of stripping it and restoring it to its original beauty. I have been doing this for 2 weeks and have not even got the one wall done.

I am using strippers and a sander. I keep thinking there has to be an easier way. Any suggestions?

Have very little budget to work with, paid Marshall Construction of Kalamazoo to do the roof, haven't seen him since (Even with the contract), windows are in really poor condition and need to be replaced but don't have the funds to do it (Lost job like everyone else in Michigan). I have almost a zero budget to do this thanks to people like Marshall construction. Any suggestions how to get this 900 sqft home to stay warm without the furnace always working?

I live in a basement apartment near the utility room of my building. I have a gas oven/stove that works well. But I noticed my apartment always smells like gas. A friend came to visit and commented on it. I notice I wake up with headaches and my eyes seem bloodshot, but I'm not sure if that's just me being paranoid. Should I be worried?

I had a splendid small summer garden and have now pulled up everything, added new compost and tilled that in with a good covering of composted lawn clippings. Now I am wanting to have something growing in that area and looking for suggestions.

Some rooms are too bright with all the light bulbs burning. I want to save on electricity cost. Should I leave an empty socket or place a burned out bulb in the socket?
