A couple of ways to rid woodpeckers is a large plastic owl mounted on the roof area. If he decides to try another part of the house, relocate the owl. One other way is to spray the eve area with any commercial bugwasp/ant/etc spray. Soak it good. It may take a few sprays but that should do the trick. Please remember that some woodpeckers are on the endangered list and harming them in any way will get you in trouble with the law. Be careful and try to discourage them away and not harm them in any way. They are sensing something in your house (moisture, insects) and are attracted to it. Pax, Jim

Woodpeckers are the experts at finding bugs, you may want to take a look at what he is pecking at and see if the wood chips look rotten.
I'd put money on it you have some ants, termites or rot behind the boards he is pecking on and he may have just saved you some big bucks in the end!

This is going to sound "cheesy" but, my parents had this problem a few yrs. ago.. They bought a plastic lifelike owl- and attached it with wire to the side of the house the wood pecker would peck on.. I scared it away ! Although, I would imagine any kind of moving object like a mobile would work as well. You can find life like "statues" at most hunting supply stores... Good luck

Don't shoot things for no reason. The bird isn't going to demolish the house, he is doing what they do. I have gone through periods where they peck at parts of the building.
Chase them off and they will leave.
