I live in a basement apartment near the utility room of my building. I have a gas oven/stove that works well. But I noticed my apartment always smells like gas. A friend came to visit and commented on it. I notice I wake up with headaches and my eyes seem bloodshot, but I'm not sure if that's just me being paranoid. Should I be worried?

You already have some great answers, but I am going to add to them. The headaches are a warning, gas leaks can certainly cause them, and gas leaks can affect your hemoglobin level also, have you been feeling tired lately?
Also are there any garages near the basement, people warm their automobiles up and the fumes are very bad for your health. You are not being paranoid, this can affect the quality of your life. Seriously, I know moving is hard, but you should think about finding another apt, basements can have mold too.

you need to call your local electric company, they will schedule a free appt to come out and test your air for contaminates or gaseous odors that may be harmful. If there is a problem, be it, your apt or a neighbors, they will find it and resolve it at your landlords expense.and they will keep your anonomity. I would do this ASAP. Its free and it could save your life as well as your neighbors.

You should report this to the gas company. They will come out and check this for gas leaks at no charge to you. This could be a serious health hazard. Do yourself a favor and have it checked out. Good luck.

You are probably smelling your pilots.... When I lived in an apartment previoud to the one I am in now, our pilots blew out on our stove and the whole house smelled REALLY strong of gas, and I called the fire dept. They went and relit the pilots and said that it was nothing to worry about, the sulfur smell isnt the actual gas, its what they put with the gas so that if there is a leak you can smell it because gas is odorless.. I wouldt worry about it really... its most likely the smell from the pilots...

I would be worried. Do you have a carbon monoxide detector? If not, go buy one.
