We live in a small village in upstate NY. An older community of older houses. There is a big seasonal community on a nearby lake, with many pricey homes. Our house is a very well built 1952 ranch. It has wide crown molding throughout. Hardwood floors everywhere but kitchen & baths. Redid the bathrooms 2 years ago in nice but not magnificent manner. The floors are in good shape. We recently had the house repainted. The kitchen cupboards are in good shape & not really dated. We have 2 fireplaces, 1 in the living room & 1 in the basement. The basement needs to be refinished. The back/side porch was remodeled into a family room w/French door about 20 years ago, it has carpeting which we are going to rip out & replace w/floating wood flooring. We recently put new sashes in all the old Anderson windows. I would like a deck. We have a large yard. My husband is interested in putting a metal roof on the house when it next needs one and I am adamantly opposed. Any ideas for the best upgrades?

The other day when my husband and I went to pick out flowers for our flower garden for the first time since I moved up north I saw celentro {brings back major memories of Tx} my husband told me to go ahead and get a plant but then I saw a seed package of them for almost 95% less then what the shop wanted for the plant so I bought the seed package and planted it according to the directions on the back of the package I also bought some chive seeds. My question is has any one of you had luck growing these herbs from seeds or should I just go ahead and buy the already mature plant? My second question is in regard to those instant flower garden you see on TV and QVC and all over the stores now. Do they work? Yes I know you'd have to prepair the bed but you have to do that with all plants and its something Im willing to do {or atleast have my husband do}. What has been your luck with them..Thanks

No, I did not know that you can't put dishwashing liquid (dawn) in my dishwasher since I was out of dishwashing detergent. Yes, I know, not one of my brighter moments. I was surprised when my entire kitchen was covered in suds, like a big bubble bath in my kitchen. Now every time I start up my dishwasher it does the same. HELP!

I just found out I have possums in my backyard. The possums have already ate all the fish in my koi ponds, made a mess of my compost heaps and dug several holes in my backyard. How do I keep them out? I don't want to set traps. Or how do I at least make it harder for them to get into my koi ponds or compost heaps.

I don't accept that light is a major factor as all trees are unique in shape and the light serves the leaves more than the branches.

I am ready to tile a kitchen island, it has the rough shape of "HOME PLATE", though not pointy. What is the best way to cover those odds angles effectively? Should I butt two edge tiles together? Also, I am not fond of the 16th inch spacing in tiles, I prefer 1/4 in gaps...any issues for the top of counter. The sides will be 1/8th gap.

I'm a soon to be first time home owner with an in ground pool. I'm no slouch, I can soak up information and dedicate a good amount of time to this...if it's worth it. So is this something an average person can do? Or is this best left to a pro?

Is there anything aside from Mr. Clean Magic eraser that can help with this? I have never used the magic eraser, does it actually work? Is there a less toxic way of getting the scuffs off. . .I know the magic erasers contain formaldehyde which does not appeal to me so much.

Thanks :)

My dad gave me a B&D router, 1616 Super Deluxe. Seems to be a good router but it's missing the arbor...I thought I would use my internet skills and find the part and order, but much to my dismay they do not make that part anymore. Can anyone help. I would hate to spend over 100$ for a new router when I have a perfectly good one here.

Thanks,
