If you want blooms now is good. They are very hardy and can be separated anytime. Just make sure they get watered, and cut back any part of the flower that doesn't perk back up in a couple days.

The fall is best when you cut them back, but now before they begin to grow would work too. Just be sure to water daily so the roots don't dry out will insure success.
