I have a relatively new (3 year old) 3-bulb light fixture. Lately, I have had problems with bulbs in one particular socket burning out very quickly. It's rated for 100-watt bulbs, but I've been using 75-watts. At one point I even switched to expensive compact flourescent bulbs, but the one in that particular socket burned out within a week, as did the second one I installed in its place. Bulbs in the other sockets seem so far to have a normal lifespan.

What is a likely cause for this, and how can I fix it? The fixture was just expensive enough that I don't want to replace it, but not quite valuable enough to warrant having it repaired professionally. I'm hoping there is some easy, obvious fix that I can do myself. Thanks!

We had a severe frost and small snow after our record breaking 80's in early spring. All of the leaves that were budding out on some of my trees have turned black and died. Will they bud out and get leaves again this year???

I want to make the house so clean when they come home. She's a total clean freak so I guess Im just trying to figure out what I should all get done before tomorrow. It's a two story house with the basement which is where my boyfriend sleeps all the time and she usually doesnt go down there. What should I make sure I do upstairs and even downstairs? What will make this house look like I took extra good care of it?

My balcony door won't open - the lock turns and it sounds like it should be unlocked but it won't budge.
How can I fix it? (Aside from calling out a locksmith)

These are the metal kind, white (well, when they're clean!), and they're in a smoker's house. I really dread the idea of SCRUBBING each and every one.

The submersible pump for the sump well in our basement has stopped pumping on a couple of occasions leading to waterlogging of our basement. Due to early detection ( and the pump starts to pump when we give a kick), it was not serious, but we were left with wet carpet. How do we ensure that this will never happen ?
