Why are handheld radios(FRS, CB, Amateur) antennas just one wire? How can that work to receive and transmit if it’s just one wire? I mean the antenna should be TWO wires, just like the antennas on the big stations, or the TV antennas. It should be a closed circuit((- and +) OR (- and ground)?).

That brings me to my next question:
I have a FRS radio. I used a TV antenna cable, and connected the radio wire to the inside wire of the cable. The cable goes up to my roof, which is only about 40 feet high, but did not work at all. If I go to the top of the roof with the radio on my hand the reception/transmission is great, HOW CAN I EXTEND THE SHORT FRS ANTENNA TO THE ROOF IN AN EFFECTIVE WAY, JUST LIKE IF I WAS UP ON THE ROOF WITH THE RADIO ON MY HAND???

Baby had a ball with foundation in bathroom. Cleaned everything but the rug. It's vanilla-colored, and is 100% cotton. Any hope?

My father-in-law lives with my wife and I. I usually keep the thermostat set at 68F, but he is always cold so I find myself bringing it up to 70-74. You would think that this would satisfy him but no. He always wants it higher than it is, (did I mention he lives here for free?) Now I'm not un-reasonable, I understand that some people need more heat than others but I know he is playing a game with us. One time I saw him looking at the wrong number which read 76, but it was actually only 68 in there, and I asked him if he was cold and he said: "no way, 76 is nice and toasty for me, not like you 70 degree cave men". So you see where i'm coming from? Im putting a separate thermostat with the controls in my room, but I want to leave the non-functioning one there and have it read higher than it is so he wont notice, and he will feel "toasty warm". Thanks in advance- hope you don't think I'm mean but you have no idea who I'm dealing with...he lives to make myself and my wife suffer

I have tried an expensive electric buzzing thing which does not seem to bother them any more and also put moth balls down the holes but that does not seem to have any effect on them.
Any other ideas, the lawn is a complete mess!

Please help I have never lived in a house with roaches or mice until moving to Ny. I clean the house everyday and still they are here, they get to live rent free. I need a safe way to rid the house of these suckers it is to the point that I want to move back to MA just to stop dealing with this. It does not help that my neighbors are not the cleanest people either.

I have stripped an old oak table and need to sand it now. What is the best type of sander for small projects. A mouse? Orbit Sander? And what grit should I start with? Thanks

I live in apartment. They're fairly nice and expensive. However, one of the neighbors must be a heavy smoker, because my apartment fills with the smell of cigarette smoke every single day. It's especially bad in the kitchen and if you turn on the vent fan above the stove, it smells terrible! It also comes through the fan in the bathroom. The smoke is so bad and is triggering headaches in me nearly every single night (I'm prone to cluster headaches and cigarette smoke is a trigger for me). It's also making my throat sore. I know these are the effects of the smoke because I lived with family that smoked for 17 years. Anyway, what can I do about this? I live in Washington state. I know we just passed strict anti-smoking laws, but I don't think anything is mentioned about cases like this. The apartment staff is incredibly unhelpful. It's becoming unbearable to be in my own apartment! I can't afford to move either and am still locked in to a 10 month lease. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have just laid tiles in kitchen and have them already in other part of house for last few months. Find it imposible to shift the dirt from them. They always seem dusty even after they have been thoroughly cleaned.
