CAN A PATIENT ON CHEMOTHERAPY FLIGHT?

2007-12-07 04:33:53 · 4 answers · asked by vicky s 1

I guess about a month ago I asked a question on how to handle my friend who has cancer.

Well, apparently now the cancer in inoperable (liver) and the doctors won't even do chemo or radiation. I don't know how much time she has left in this life, and I was wondering if any one has suggestions of things to do for her before she does leave.

I was thinking trips and such, but maybe some other things on a lower scale. I appreciate any help you can give me.

My friend is terminally ill with cancer but she really doesn't know much about the disease. I'd like to put some things in that basket like some books that would help her to understand what her body is going through, about natural treatments, or an account of someone going through the same thing. Maybe a robe and some slippers for her stays at the hospital. Something else to make her laugh. I want to make it full of things that are informative, motivating, hope filled, thoughtful, and enjoyable.

I was thinking of buying that Crazy, Sexy Cancer book to start. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks very very much for the help!

My stepmom was recently diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. She had a pap, it was abnormal, she had surgery to remove the effected tissue and was told it would be gone and that a hysterectomy was optional and precautionary if she chose to do it. She did this and pathology tests came back saying she should have her lymph nodes checked to jsut to be safe and make sure nothing had spread into her lympatic system. Just two days ago this surgery took place and it has spread into her lymph nodes, which the doctor removed all the enlarged ones he could find. Now she just came home today but has been diagnosed with Stage 3B cervical cancer. In amount a month she needs to have a Pet Scan (I believe thats what its called) to make sure no other organs have been effected, in which case the doctor says it wont be curable. If they arent effected she has 40-60 percent chance of beating the special 5 yr cancer mark. The doc thought it was caught early but it really tricked them. Any thoughts??? =(

I mean, sure breast cancer is very scary and all, but it has the third highest death rate of the cancers, preceeded by lung and colon. Sure a lot of cases of lung cancer are directly related to smoking but what about colon cancer? Colon cancer attacks men and women and we hardly ever hear anything about it. My wife had colon cancer and until she did, we never realized how many people die of this each year. Why doesn't everyone know this? I guess I am on a rant, but if there is a cancer that does not descriminate by gender and more people die from it, why doesn't everyone know all there is to know about it? Also, my wife was only 36 when diagnosed, so it is not an age thing either.

One very obvious effect of chemotherapy is that people generally lose all of their hair a few weeks after the drugs enter their system. Why do you think chemotherapy drugs cause a person's hair to fall out?

Or does anyone know if there are any trials/studies showing the effectiveness of radiation? Or what about surgery in treating cancer? I have heard there are none, but wanted to ask the "experts" here first.

In between my breats.

It's been coming and going for about a year now.

I told my mom and she kind of brushed it off.

I'm scared.

Does anyone know what it is?

I don't have a history of cancer in my family, though, it could still be cancer.

Anyone?

Here is the story... my sister came home after going to the dr. and said that she has cancer in her breast. She went to the hospital and they removed the lumps in ONE breast. She also has issues with her uterus. The lumps in the other breast haven't been removed. That was 11 months ago. She hasn't been for any other surgery but is now seeing a shrink once a week and going to the dr. at least once a week. She has dropped at least 25 lbs and sleeps all the time. No bowel or urinary control. She doesn't talk to anyone about it and doesn't seem to care about anything. A nurse told me that she is dying and is getting prepared for it. But I can't believe that she wouldn't share what is happening. She lives with us and I am scared to find her dead in her room. She talks about moving out and set a deadline to move but that has passed. She makes excuses for it or won't talk to anyone really and she is hiding out in her room. I don't want her to leave if she need us. What is happening?
