My friend is terminally ill with cancer but she really doesn't know much about the disease. I'd like to put some things in that basket like some books that would help her to understand what her body is going through, about natural treatments, or an account of someone going through the same thing. Maybe a robe and some slippers for her stays at the hospital. Something else to make her laugh. I want to make it full of things that are informative, motivating, hope filled, thoughtful, and enjoyable.

I was thinking of buying that Crazy, Sexy Cancer book to start. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks very very much for the help!

If you guys know any specific book names too, that'd be great.

If I was dying of cancer, I don't think that helpful books about the disease would make me feel better. It would probably make me more depressed.

Terminally ill means not able to recover. Are you sure that's what you mean to say?

You would do far better to put in any form of treat or little luxury that you would give if she was well, allowing for diet or medication.

I would give her a Bible, a book by Dodie Osteen called, "Healed of Cancer" along with a soft pretty throw, a silky gown or robe, some slippers, an inspirational CD, a puzzle book and pencil, a journal and pen, some lotion, and maybe some chocolates.
When a friend of mine from church found out that I was diagnosed with Uterine cancer, she gave me the book by Dodie Osteen (Pastor Joel Osteen's mother) and $50.00. The book is an easy read, very inspirational and will give her hope as Dodie was diagnosed with "terminal cancer" with only a few weeks to live. She had metastatic cancer of the liver in 1981. She is still alive and well today and never took any treatment. It is documented by medical professionals. She does not encourage people not to receive treatment but does give scripture to help you fight this disease in a spiritual way. Cancer is a scary disease and it is good to be reminded that it is not bigger than God! My prayers are with your friend and I think that she is fortunate to have a good friend like you to help her in her time of need.

The book idea is a good one and it has gotten lots of great reviews. I would also include lots of "girly" things like warm, snugly socks, some lotions and creams (because the air in a hospital tends to dry out the skin more),a cute, funny hat so that she won't be so conscious of her hair loss, some soothing teas and maybe even a small blanket (throw). You sound like a very special friend and I'll say a prayer for both of you.

to be honest if i was you i wouldn't give her cancer books. i would focus on the good things in life. cancer is a very stressful and horrible illness that lots of people die from.as soon as she realises she could die, she could get quite upset.
get her lots of fluffy pillows for the hospital, basic things such as toothbrushes, flannels, face washes, hair brushes, shampoo & conditioner, make up (not perfumed things though because chemicals are not allowed in hospitals) and maybe some joke books or something.

i hope this helps you.

the informative books would be great... some inspirational books (including a Bible!) would also be good..
the robe and slippers sound super nice - how about one of those relaxing lavender eyeshades too? maybe a fun mug and some teas? a genuine but light-hearted note to let her know that you're supporting her.
