I've read details from one extreme to the other. Some say it's going to be a deadly epidemic and to start saving non-perishable food and water as we'll be trapped in our homes and others say that if your a normal healthy person, the chances of you contracting it are slim. Any thoughts?

I am a 56 year old man, on disability for back and neck problems. I take care of my 87-year old father.

I have torn the rotator cuffs of both my shoulders and a surgeon says , after an MRI, that I need surgeries--two of them, left first, right later.

Right now, I am mildly inhibited only. I can still bathe, dress, and do basic household tasks. I even pull the start cord for my dad to mow the lawn.

But I cannot push even pillows or clothing up onto a shelf above my head in the closet. And I have mild difficulty in putting clothes out to dry on a clothesline.

I know that all surgery is risky.
I am a recoering alcoholic, too, so I hesitate to go under general
anesthesia. I also hesitate to have to wear slings or cats on my arms for weeks or months, temporarily becoming more "disabled".

What do you think? If you are an M.D., great, please respond. Or, if you have had this type of surgery and wish to report your results with it, I'd like to hear from you.
No abuse!!

I have a sunburn that is killing me. I got it on Saturday and it is mostly hurting on my shoulders. It's still really hurting. It's starting to blister. I've put vinegar on wash cloths and put it on my shoulders, and I've also used Aloe Vera. Now when I use the vinegar, it hurts so I don't do that anymore, and it's too sensitive to put more Aloe Vera on it. What can I do?

My 11 yr old was diagnosed a year ago. At first the surgeon she was referred to at Arkansas Children's Hospital said she would have to have surgery eventually and that bracing wouldn’t do any good. Her curvature is about 70 %. When we went back for her 3 mo check up it had not progressed since her last visit and he said if it stays at 70% we would only operate for cosmetic reasons. By the way her surgeon is world renowned and has been on discovery channel. So, has anyone been through this that will offer some advice? The surgery is 8hrs long, putting a steal rod and pins in my child’s back scares the (bad word) out of me! but I don't want her to be made fun of or have an old lady hunch back when she's 40. What to do?

Cancer is very hard to live with when you are the person with it. But seeing a love or a patient going through the radiation and the chemo . Losing weight, losing their hair, not being able to eat and getting up everyday for your treatments. I have been in this line of work for the last five years and it does not get any easier to deal with. But I am so very glad that I chose to work with cancer patients because it is a very rewarding career to be in. I love taking care of my patients. Be able to bring a smile to a person's face or to hear them say thank you for being here for me is so wonderful and it makes you feel so good on the inside. But to see a love one go through this is even harder. So that is why I say it is not easy to tell someone that you are close to that the other one may die soon is a real challenge. But some how I got get the strenghth to do it.

He was diagnosed two years ago and he has such a poor attitude on life. I'm struggling with the teen age problems as well as trying to get him to control his numbers. He constantly has to be reminded to check himself and when I do he smarts off to me. When I'm not around to remind him he always forgets. The Doctor he last saw was very agree and said she would not waste her time with someone who doesn't want to take care of himself. The sugar is already affecting his bones. Any suggestions on how I can get him to see the light? Many family and friends have repeatedly tell him what the results of him not taking care of himself would be. I see him dying at an early early age and it tears me apart. HELP!!!
