I have baked a cake today - instead of buying it - using the old receipe of 4oz of dry mix and 2 eggs. Why did it only rise on one side and like a biscuit on the other. I think I should just go back to shop bought as the kids don't like custard!

Does pound cake expand in bread pans or does it cook at the level to which it is filled?

its my first time making it today, and i think i should throw it in a 13x9 pan, but it fits perfectly in my large bread pan. it is about 1/3 inch away from the top filled with batter.

At work on Saturday, loads of people were ordering Rodney's. It's a bottle of blue wkd topped up in a pint glass with lager. Where has this new drink come from and WHY is it called a Rodney?

I love the cooking shows on The Food Network, but I've noticed something that drives me nuts-no clue why. It's a little silly, but maybe there is a good answer. Why do all the cooks keep some of their ingredients in a little bowls instead of in the containers they came in? When they put it in their food, they take a pinch out of the bowl. They always seem to keep thier salt and pepper in little bowls. It's not just fresh ingredients they keep in there, either. Does anyone ever notice that?

1. It's much, much cheaper than anywhere else.

2. It often smells/tastes awful. Often the lager has a rotten eggs smell to it. I've tested this at a number of different sites and it's often the same.
