Use the three day rule.

When in doubt, throw it out. The cost of a hospital trip far outweighs the savings by not tossing it.

'Bout as long as it takes 'em to get from my plate to my belly! lol
If you're talking about them sitting out at room temperature, a couple hours are safe. To keep leftovers longer, put 'em in an airtight container and pop 'em in the fridge - they'll keep for a week. Or freeze 'em and they'll keep for three months.

For any leftovers, 3-4 days should always be the rule.

I would say three days tops, no more if you have a sauce with them, like mushroom soup.
