I know with the crises at hand it seems a valuable option but what happens when we start eradicating the oceans and seas. I mean the ice caps are already melting. Isn't this a defence mechanism of the earth to heal itself? What would happen if we started to depleat our water supply? I think we need to research more on solar power. What are your thoughts?

I really hope this isnt just a trend and people really do start making changes in their lives to reduce pollution and minimize their carbon footprint!

What are you doing to make a difference?

I'm hosting bunco tonight, and I'm sure most of the group isn't even aware this stuff exists! My source was a bit pricy, though.

Have you tried it, did it break down in your compost pile? Product labeling on the materials I bought and at the ecoproducts site mention biodegradability in commercial composting, not residential. Also, where did you purchase it?

When I go in the closet or laundry room I usually only have the light on for two to five minutes at a time, but might cycle them 10 times if I'm have a few loads to do. Is it better to use regular bulbs which light up instantly or C.F. bulbs which are usually still warming up when I turn them back off.

We are going to encourage recycling, promote awareness of environmental dangers, and collect recyclable materials around campus. WE NEED A NAME THAT WILL SUIT OUR CAUSE.

We thought of :
* iEarth
* Creative Living Club (CLC)
*iRecycle

Basically, I just want everyone to work together to save our beautiful planet.
So, would you like to help?
Great!!!
All you have to do is do two or more "green things" today, like turning off all of the unused lights in your house, gathering up some recyclable trash and recycling it, or walk, cycle or use public transport to get to work tomorrow. Then answer in what two or more green things you did today (remember: the more, the merrier!)
Thanks for stopping by to do your bit!

According to the Department of Energy, hemp as a biomass -fuel producer requires the least specialized growing and processing procedures of all hemp products. The hydrocarbons in hemp can be processed into a wide range of biomass energy sources, from fuel pellets to liquid fuels and gas. Development of biofuels could significantly reduce our consumption of fossil fuels and nuclear power.
-Hemp fiber paper resists decomposition, and does not yellow with age when an acid-free process is used. Hemp paper more than 1,500 years old has been found. It can also be recycled more times.
-Eco-friendly hemp can replace most toxic petrochemical products. Research is being done to use hemp in manufacturing biodegradable plastic products: plant-based cellophane, recycled plastic mixed with hemp for injection-molded products, and resins made from the oil, to name just a very few examples.

Mennonite's and the Amish live with out Gas and they have plenty of food, they depend on them selves, We have a country full farmers and we buy our food and our gas from over seas. when we could depend on our selves and grow our own food and make our own bio fuel and could make enough to supply all are needs and make our country cleaner healthier and self sufficient, so why aren't we doing it?

I am leaving all my faucets running, taking cans out of the recycling bins and putting them in the trash, and hopefully draining a wetland or two.

I have most of the stuff in my room (laptop, cell charger, printer) hooked up to one power strip or surge protector. I want to conserve more energy, and I know these devices suck energy out even when not in use or in sleep mode. When I leave for the day/go to bed and want to turn it off, do I have to unplug the power strip from the wall or do I only need to switch it off? Thanks!

Will we be living more locally, traveling less....like we did in the 50's and 60's.....I lived in SE PA, and going to NJ was an adventure and MD was in another world. Imports were luxuries and flying somewhere was for rich people.

I myself work in the IT industry. I use all kinds of devices for work and I can't get around it. My family (4) is the same way with their consumption. I *know* that I can curb my consumption and increase my efficiency but I'm curious otherwise...

Realisticly, can someone run a modern day home with computers/appliances/home theater and such using nothing more than solar or alternative fuel sorces? I don't mean off the "grid" but more like zero net.

Are solar homes built with this in mind nowadays? If I invest in solar panels et al will I be disapointed in the result? How much can I expect to spend to make it work right?

Thanks!
