Does anyone see that when you puff up your case, you lose credibility? Does anyone understand that that's a character flaw? That's what Al Gore did in An Inconvenient Truth, whether he's accurate about global warming, or not.

Personally, I think he's wrong, so have at me, environmentalists.

Well hello! i'm trying to do my bit when it comes to global warming and i was looking for an article to post in my myspace blog. I was thinking of something simple such as '20 ways to reduce global warming'. Unfortunately although i'm passionate about the issue i'm not 100% clued up so i was hoping for a bit of help. So if there is anybody out there with some nifty writing skills and good knowledge in the area who'd like to write me one or if anybody knows where i can find one that would be great. I've tried google but nothing really appeals it's all a bit bland i was looking for something that will really get people ineterested and possibly entertaining. I know the whole issue isn't exactly comical but it seems like nobody wants to know so maybe it would be worth a try? ThankingYouu :)

Ok i understand if you recycle paper it will stop more trees being cut down and this can help save our planet. but plastic bags,bottles etc, and glass bottles etc, these have to be melted down to make more plastic and glass products.
So what about the power and energy used on the machines that have to melt these bags and bottles, Then what about the fumes form the plastic and glass being melted going into the atmosphere this will cause global warming not prevent it.
If you don't recycle properly you will get a heavy fine from the councils, then you have to pay for extra bins to recycle properly
so you wont get fined.
So is recycling just another government conspiracy to take more money off people.
or is this just another load of rubbish which i heard in the pub on saturday

ok so Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Award for his efforts on trying to change the climate, but the thing is dosen't a higher power i.e. God/Jesus Christ control that? That is how i was raised, maybe it's true, not sure however I am looking for scripture to support this theory! Can anyone help?

Ok, first of all, some people seem to think that climate change 'skeptics' think that there is no global warming happening.
Wrong. There is a concensus on that point. The real debate is the cause of global waming/climate chance. Whether it's significantly affected by human activity or not.

The other major point which is actually a recurring theme in the IPCC report and Al Gore's 'documentary', is that carbon dioxide causes temperature increase. The fact is that throughout all history, it's been the other way around. Temperature increase causes CO2 increase as higher ocean temperatures liberate CO2 from the oceans and also higher ocean temperatures increase the amount of zooplankton which generate CO2.
The fact is that only 5% of the CO2 output to the atmosphere every year is caused by human activities and additionally, water vapour and methane are far more potent greenhouse gases.

Now, am I going to be labelled as a 'denialist' for trying to get to the truth of the matter?

How many of us actually understand how the greenhouse effect works? The simple physics explanations you find on the Internet are usually quite wrong. With this in mind, I've decided to attempt a very simple explanation of the physics behind Earth's greenhouse effect. Bear in mind that this is a simple radiative model, there are actually many more parts to the greenhouse effect than I present here, they're just unnecessary for such a basic explanation.


This is just my current understanding of the process, so I'd be curious to know if there's anything I'm misunderstanding here.

I've always been skeptical about the subject.

Billions of years ago the continents were together and there were probably catastrophic storms that deteriorated the land. But no one was around to record it. Isn't that what we are seeing now? Are we trying to interfere with nature taking it's course?

I think that we can keep our enviroment cleaner - but I doubt such actions will prevent nature from doing what it's doing.

I'm interested to see how people feel. What's your take?

I don't understand. If I were near one, it would eat me alive. They defacate and urinate on the north pole and eat the seals, which are much cuter than they are.

i read today that an highly respected meteorologists by the name of Dr William Gray is linking global warming to the salt in the seas and that a cooling period in the globe will soon begin...this is the link and the article. if you know anymore about this or where i can learn more about how this works or is or isnt connected to global warming thatd be sweet....

You never hear anything in the popular press regarding all of the research showing that Global Warming is not anthropogenic. All you hear is that some political group or some group of "scientists" have signed some decree saying that GW is real. You never hear about the science that is trying to unravel the truth.

I know it's not that important, but is there any way of doing a head count on the scientists who support AGW? I came across a list of 'sceptics' on Wikipedia once, and I heard 60 quoted somewhere. Could you do a head count of scientists in the appropriate fields, and deduct the 60, or however many there are?

Or would it just be easier to take the 98.5% of papers in support, in cojunction with the 60 sceptics. Mental arithmatic gives 4,000 'for' AGW.

What are the appropriate fields?
Any sensible comments?

It seems scientists are starting to object to receiving of grants being tied to agreeing with man made global warming.

If we get a few years of sustained global cooling soon will this be the end of the global warming debate. Will all the profits of doom then admit they were wrong or will they quickly move on to another theory.

The accepted concensus of scientific opinion is that it takes 15 years for ozone depleting substances to reach the stratosphere and they remain there for an average of 100 years. If that was the case, wouldn't we expect ozone depletion to continue for 115 years after phasing out of CFC's?

The accepted scientific consensus now is that the ozone layer is recovering now and has been for some time.

Was the accepted scientific model of ozone depletion used to justify phasing out of ozone depleting substances completely innacurate?
