The scientific community predicts that as polar ice caps melt, much of Florida and Bangladesh will be under water. Most major cities on both coasts of both major oceans will be bombarded with horrific tornadoes, hurricanes, rain and winds. Flooding will be worse than most modern cities have ever experienced.
Our smoke-belching factories, vehicle emissions, air and water pollution, coal mining, oil drilling and natural gas exploration will have contributed to the demise of the planet as we know it.
Polar bears, rainforests, beaches, exotic frogs, tsetse flies, elephants, grey whales, mangrove forests, remote Eskimo tribes, millions of species of insects, clean air, coral reef, swordfish, rich farming soil, cats, humming birds, oceans, sea otters, glaciers, fresh water, trees, fish, deer, flowers, penguins and oysters will be among those resources which will disappear from the Earth - eventually human beings will also become extinct. While many say none of that matters to them, they might want to keep in mind that their descendants will have to live in a far more ruthless world than we do today. -RKO- 10/15/07

First, the earth has stopped warming. If it starts warming up again, maybe we'll have a problem.
Second, the North Polar Ice Cap is irrelevant to the discussion, since floating ice melting into water does not increase the level of the surrounding water.
Third, temperatures in Antarctica are stable or decreasing, and the Antarctic Sea Ice actually hit almost record highs this last Southern Winter, so it almost offset the North Polar ice-cap melt.
Fourth, if all of the sunlight hitting Greenland did nothing but melt the ice there, it would take 12,700 years to melt it, so we have at least a few thousand years to come up with an answer for increased sea levels.
Fifth, increased warming leads to the spread of plants and animals and is good for most life on earth!

The actuality of global warming would create an Ice Age. The exact opposite of what many believe. Why an Ice Age? Because, the ocean actually controls the majority of our temperatures. Initially you'd have to have a pretty fair, consistent rise in water temp to maintain a consistent air temp in order to cyclically melt away the ice caps. The resulting fresh water would set as a layer on top of the heavier saltwater thus preventing deep current upwelling. Since the currents in effect "shut down" you no longer have the ability to maintain air temp and low level winds. So now you have areas cooling off because temp can't be distributed. Weather systems begin to form in the cooler areas and remain while expanding because they are now picking up strength. Temps continue to drop over larger and larger areas and voila...Ice Age.

i don't think we have anything to worry about but it would have a benefit for people that live in cold snowy parts of the country i live in central pa and the last few winters were great not to much snow not very cold i can remember when i was little it snowed around here like crazy it was terrible there was snow every where and was freeezing cold and stayed until April some times. but not any more yippee so don't worry about global warming go buy some suv's and suck up all that gas and put all that emissions up in the sky and help me out because i want to get it to the point that there is no snow and its nice and cozy warm

Make no mistake it's going to get hot. Sea levels might rise a little. I don't think a lot. Put a cup of water in the freezer. What happens. The level rise. Now defrost it. What happens. The level drops. ???? I don't know.

its the need to survive at this moment in time that happens, and then when the damage is done its the future generations that will have to change or try to fix everything if possible, but it boils do to lack of knowledge from the masses.

Eventually we're going to loose a few coastal cities, there'll be some displacements, famines, death, war... so pretty much the human SNAFU, just a bit more intense.
