With all the news about global warming and it now being public knowlege that the polar ice caps are crucial to the well being of our planet, it boggles my brain to see on the news that countries are racing to see who can be the first to exploit the melting of the ice to establish a new shipping route through the arctic!
I just don't understand it, aren't we supposed to be preserving this important habitat rather than adding to it's distruction?

Surely the best thing would be to leave the place alone rather than adding to the pollution by taking ships and tankers through it?

This is just my laymans opinion, if anyone can explain how this makes sense i would appreciate it because I'm starting to think that the human race is greedy beyond sense.

It seems as if we are hell bent on our own destruction!

when it comes to trying to pass their denial off on the rest of us?

I was at a funeral today, and the Preacher somehow managed to bring his denial of global warming based on the fact that media claimed we were headed for another ice age in the 70s, into his sermon, at the FUNERAL PARLOR!
how sick is that??!!

If the glaciers in Greenland are beginning to receed due to "Global Warming", then how come they're finding signs of farming and grapevines in the soil UNDERNEATH THE ICE?

Could it be that this has happened before? Now, that would make sense, wouldn't it?

It is a physical fact that heat cannot be destroyed, it can only be moved from one place to another. In our modern society we undoubtably create much more heat then we created in the past from cars, planes, electricity, heaters, etc.... Where does all that heat go? And if all that heat has been created and supposedly held in by the greenhouse effect, why isnt it 20 or 30 degrees hotter instead of just a half a degree? Explain that one to me.

aren't hybrid cars made MUCH less expensive for consumers to buy? I would think that they would make it more appealing for us to purchase one of these by making it less $$. Same with the energy light bulbs, etc.

They post a link saying 15,000 scientists are against global warming.

What they don't tell you is that the list was never verified. All you needed to be a "scientist against global warming" was to print out some from from a website, fill it out, and send it in. You didn't even have to do climate research or even have a degree. You could just lie about it.

=====================
Jokers Add Fake Names To Warming Petition

Arthur Robinson, a physical chemist from Cave Junction, Ore., who circulated the petition by mail among scientists, said questionable names were added to the petition by pranksters.

While the petition has been portrayed by global-warming skeptics as authoritative evidence that many scientists reject the catastrophic scenario of global climate change, Robinson acknowledged that little attempt was done to verify credentials of those who responded.

Why did they ignore data that they didn't like?

READ THIS:

A new scientific study concludes that changes in the Sun's output cannot be causing modern-day climate change.

It shows that for the last 20 years, the Sun's output has declined, yet temperatures on Earth have risen.

Dr Lockwood initiated the study partially in response to the TV documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle, broadcast on Britain's Channel Four earlier this year, which featured the cosmic ray hypothesis.

"All the graphs they showed stopped in about 1980, and I knew why, because things diverged after that," he told the BBC News website.

"You can't just ignore bits of data that you don't like," he said.

"Human activities are increasingly altering the Earth's climate. These effects add to natural influences that have been present over Earth's history. Scientific evidence strongly indicates that natural influences cannot explain the rapid increase in global near-surface temperatures observed during the second half of the 20th century."

"CO2 can only have a *limited* amount of effect on the atmosphere before reaching an equilibrium (this is the equivalent of the salination of water - water can only absorb so much salt before the rest just sinks to the bottom). That means that it doesn't matter how much CO2 we pump, once you reach equilibrium you can't do more damage with CO2 alone.

To the one who mentioned dogs: Methane emissions by cattle release more greenhouse gas every year than cars, boats, SUVs and whatnot combined. If there weren't people, there'd be more other animals all producing greenhouse gasses.

Did you know the temperature on Mars is increasing at a rate faster than earth? There are no people there, there are no SUVs, there are other factors contributing here. Other planets in the solar system are warming as well - some at rates faster than earth some slower. Unless GM started producing SUVs on Mars as well, then there's something else at play."

From the website below:

"The average American is responsible for 10 tons of CO2 emissions annually through their direct energy use at home, driving and flying. However, the average American is responsible for about 23 tons of CO2 when you also include their purchases, activities and the other services we all share throughout the economy."

Carbonfund.org claims that their goal is to make it affordable for every person or business to reduce their climate footprint to zero.
