Apologies, if wanted, to those of you who wrote very reasoned, well informed answers answers for someone of my apparent inteligence and knowledge, especially 'leeincog', keep it up. Some people aren't ready for a mass of science or the full implications of GW, but they still have a right to be informed.

Good answering.

No it is not a myth. It is currently a collection of scientific theories based upon REAL statistics which are continually being collected. The mean temperature of the planet IS on the increase, that is a fact, and can be observed at the poles, where the ice is shrinking every year. This fact is beyond dispute.

What people do dispute is the cause of this, and what its effects will be. Warming and cooling is a natural process, and the earth has gone through this process countless times. On the grand scale of things, ice ages come around very quickly, maybe every 20,000 years or so. The question is what is causing the warming this time? Is it a natural phenomenon? Or are the activities of humans helping to cause the rising temperatures? I think it is probably a combination of the two. We are indeed pumping thousands of tons of greenhouse gases into the air every single day. Things like "Clean Air" laws have compounded the problem. 50 years ago we could actually see the filthy gases we generated, today they are invisible, out of sight, out of mind, but still there.

The attitude of the sceptics is curious to say the least. If you wait to long to observe the effects, the damage is greater. If you act immediately, what harm can that do? Does it harm you to turn off the light? It will reduce your bills at least. Does it harm you to use the bus? It may save the earth, it may not, but it will save you the hassle of finding a parking space, and the parking fee.

It is indeed "real", only the causes are disputed but believe this : the laws of physics, and chemistry, which are at work here have no regard for politics, they do not recognise "liberals" or "conservatives" and rising sea levels will not discriminate between rich and poor, though worldwide, the poorest live at the lowest levels and will suffer the most.

the earths climate is changing - that's real - the climate has been messing about like this for millions of years.- what was desert becomes forest - what was forest becomes desert or icecap- coastlines change - all that is real.
that global warming is caused by the human race is not real - there are lots of people out there who thrive on misery and want someone to blame but the scientists who were originally involved in the global warming issue are appalled that the governments have twisted it all this way and went on tv to say so.
first we have to have co2 in our atmosphere - we need it to survive.- second - most of the co2 in our atmosphere is caused by the ocean and forests and fields - the percentage the human race produces is a mere fraction and irrelevant on a global scale.
both these things are absolutely true.

what the human race does produce too much of is rubbish - this needs sorting big time - but this is being done - only the other day my daughter recieved a parcel and instead of polystyrene chips it came packed in popcorn - what a great idea - it all went straight into the compost. now thats what i call thinking outside the box.we are all changing our attitudes about recycling and it's very impressive how so many people got on board with it - it's a pity our government doesn't do more by example but i now don't know anyone who doesn't do it.
there is big money in the global warming issue -it's used as an excuse to put up prices and whole new industries have sprung up out of it every county in the country has an environmental officer now - good job if you can get it.

global warming is the new religion - our leaders say the world will end and we'll all die if we don't do as we are told and it's all our fault - well it's not true so stop worrying and listening to gloom and doom stories -get on and enjoy your life - but keep recycling.

No and the denial lobby is about as helpful as the socialist-environmentalist extremists obsessed with de-industrialization and deep ecology. There is a middle ground on this issue but it must take into consideration matters such as the economy, the consumer price index, market fluctuations, overpopulation, climate, social effects, the effects of unregulated industrialization and pollution in the Second and Third World and other issues.

Any agreement must have American and Russian approval. China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brazil, India and South Africa must come on board.

For Arab countries, it is important to consider the loss of income from any agreement as well as any potential benefits. Depletion of oil reserves could become a serious problem in that part of the world. They need help in diversification of their economies before any plan on oil development restriction or global warming takes effect in their countries. Penalizing the producers will have long-lasting effects on our economies and international relations.

Of course global warming is not a myth. what, do you live in a cave?????? The causes of global warming are what people argue about all the time, the 2 main points being emissions from autos and industrial pollution reduces the ozone layer which causes global warming; or (2) it is a natural phenonomon that is the result of normal atmospheric patterns that causes the change in temperatures, and that in another 50 or 100 years the pendulum will swing back the other way and the earth will start becoming colder again. Another theory is that it depends on the amount of salt in the oceans and the temperature of the ocean water, but since I don't know anything about that really I can't make any comments on it.

Is this part of a cunning plan

In Europe most people are aware of global warming.

And even in a country as controlled as America Global Warming has become much more than a myth ,the dispute was who is really to blame and how bad is it really.

But now there appears to be an intellectual relapse into the dark ages ,and were are back to myths again ,at least that sounds better than the global warming conspiracy theory.

It's not even debatable. Global Warming is happening and has scientific evidence to back it up. Our government just paid for organisations to post articles with information to make the situation look like a political opinion. It's fact and it's happening right now.

global temperatures have risen by around 1.5 degrees C over the last 120 years or so and are now about the same as they were in medieval times when grapes were grown in Northern England . the myth is that all scientists agree that it is caused by man made carbon emissions. Spend an hour on the Internet and you will soon see for yourself that they most certainly do not agree. the facts are that 99.75% of carbon in the atmosphere occurs quite naturally most of it in fact comes from the oceans . man over the last 100 years or so has managed to push up the carbon content of the planets atmosphere from 0.0003% to 0.0004% roughly the equivelent of a fart in a cathedral. Even scientists who believe that this is having an effect on the climate are quite dismissive of some of the alarmist nonsense spouted by people like Al Gore

A state of fear - Michael Crighton

Fab read and real insight into the way we are all manipulated but goverments into believing what they want to .......

Did you all notice that global warming became climate change?

Or that Greenpeace's chief scientist said that GW could not be proven!

So although I do recycle cos I don't want to live in a landfill site
I do not believe in GW or Climate change except to say that it climates have changed drastically over time since the world began.

This could just be the normal cycle

it is not,
but what could be a myth is that people is the cause.
there is nothing we can do about it,
it has to do with solar energy, electromagnetic waves, that of course we cannot change or modify.

check out mayan prophecies, they talk about this issue in our world.

i really believe there is some economical interests of politicians and industries about what we can supposedly do about global warming.....

you get it, right? im not native english speaker.

Personally, I don't think that global warming is a hoax, but when it comes down to now, It might still happen, so I believe that everyone should still do their bit to help the environment and keep the planet in good order. After all, the next generation, and the generation after that, are going to use this planet. We are stewards to the planet and even if global warming doesn't come knocking on our door, we have to think about the future. We don't want to make the planet a bad place to be for our children and grandchildren.
