Because it has become synonymous with environmental extremism. They cannot back up their claim with legitimate science, only conjecture. So far our best science supports a natural cycle the earth goes through over millions of years. They are trying to base their theory on a mere 70 years of semi-accurate records and 150 years at best of "we think" records. What they are just coming to realize is that we are not as ignorant as they once thought we were and the sheep mentality of the sixties and seventies has long since faded away for most thinking people. We still have our extremist sheep but thankfully they are loosing their collective support.

First, it's not "Global" and second, it's no longer "warming."

Since Global Warming only sells if the WHOLE Globe is warming (which it clearly isn't, according to the data) then a new term must be made to allow EcoNazis to separate you from your SUV.

Now, we call it "Climate Change," which is really rather redundant (climate's are always changing).

Since the Earth "stopped warming" as of 1998 according to the data, all they can do is scream that now the Climate is going to experience more storms (uhm, no) and more severe events (uhm, no) and try and grab your money that way!

Actually, It has always been global climate change theory. It is just that the pop media has picked up on the green house effect part of the story...

and why you ask? Well, because there are many other changes besides increased average global temp that are predicted. Like changes in precip, dust, clouds, sea surface temp, storms etc.

Think Big picture! Not just local weather.

Warmer weather is blamed on global warming. Cooler weather is blamed on global warming, if it's dry if it's wet, it's all global warming. So in order not to appear completely insane the advocates of man made global warming have changed the name of their fetish to climate change which encompasses everything under the sun

They're two different things, the media tended to use the term 'global warming' when they should have been using the term 'climate change' and ended up juxtaposing the two.

Global warming is what's happening in so much as the globe is warming, the consequence of this is climate change.

Terminology changes through popular use, today we all talk about carbon dioxide but not so long back everyone referred to it as carbonic acid.

Global warming is when the temperature in our atmosphere rises, this causes climates such as tundra and polar ice caps to melt, which is climate change. Global warming and climate change are a cause and effect situation.

Cause: CO2, Effect: Global warming; Cause: global warming, Effect: Climate change; Cause: Climate change, effect: extinction.

Because politicians and hippies can claim climate change when the temperature heats or cools (all the time).
