First of all I have an issue with the continuity of this season-Tony is on top of the world to begin the season, then he is a gambler and looses everything, then he is hated by his friends, then loved again and the degenerate gambling just simply disappears. Episode to episode the strings just were never tied together. We focused on AJ all season long-a plot that I think should have been secondary to the main storyline-tension between NY and NJ. On that note, Phil Leotardo should never have been killed-he was on top of the world, controling all of NY and NJ, almost unlimited power, and "loyalty" of his soldiers-when did they suddenly have a change of heart? The NY crew had no reason to let Phil get killed, he was doing more for them then any other NY mob boss. Horrible writing and a cliff hanger ending-sure we get to see what Tony sees, but I agree with most people, Chase is a genius-not in a writing, but in marketing. Sopranos the movie, 8 years of loyalty for a sub par ending-genius.
