someone wrote today; "The finale displayed their lives continuing, for better and worse, unaffected by the fact that the series is done. The implication was, they will go on as usual. We just won't be able to watch."

Ok Tony died....bobby says " i bet you dont even hear it" means tony doesnt know he just goes out bc he is shot...meadow failed parking twice are the two failed attempts on tonys life...then the last successful parking show tony dies......the people in the diner are all from past episode like the kids from the train place where bobby got shot...and the black peole who almost clipped tony...it all connects....its ****** genius…think the cat in some roundabout way was meant to replace Christopher almost, like maybe he had Christopher's spirit. I know that's a stretch. A big reason I feel that way is because he comes to them when Tony is in danger, also because there is tension between the cat and Paulie, like between him and Christopher, but Tony says "He's a good guy".
....tonys died

It ended in true David Chase style, he has always done things the way you least expect. At first I was like "What the F**K! Then I thought about how genius it was. The last like five minutes in the diner scene, with the shady characters lingering around, one walks in with AJ, Meadow with parking troubles in the street, The guy that goes in the bathroom, the guy with the hat in the corner booth. It was pure suspense, I almost couldn't stand it. That's what it must be like for Tony 24/7. Then LIGHTS OUT, it could be over like that, like with Phil Leotardo saying good bye to the Grand kids then BAM, its over. And it leaves us all guessing! Very cool in a tortuous sort of way!

It's simply stated, life goes on, Tony's on top and that's the way it is. Did you notice that in the last episode, and even this one Tony couldn't even go to the toilet alone or without his assault rifle. The end shows how powerful he just became being that he was sitting in a diner, ALONE, with his family out in the open. It was great!!

(To that other guy: We know it was Meadow because she walked thru the door right before it went black)

Scratching my head
Read a colum on NJ.com and the guy evaluates the show.
he said the creator David Chase did the fade to black to break the conventional method of TV.
Agree hard to not get a final answer but that was the magic of this show.

The ending is to be decided by each viewer. David Chase ripped off the ending from Frank Stockton's "Lady or the Tiger" short story!

I love the ending.......so typical of Chase. Personally I would have shown the duck returning to the pool after the black out!!

Yes, the finale was such a boring waste of time. I have no idea why it went black when Meadow walked in. I think that's the point though, to leave it open to speculation.

The way mob hits happen is that the victim is shot in the head killing them instantly, they experience death like turning off the light switch. Everything stops, everything goes black, the music stops, everything ends.

Tony and his family get whacked, what you experienced was the event from Tony's viewpoint. He didn't even hear the gunshot. Everything just ended. End of story, end of show.

How do you know it was Meadow? Its all about money. They left it open in case they want to make money. A movie perhaps, a reunion maybe, who knows.

I believe that quote came from a cop-out fluff piece from one of the wire services.
