First of all I have an issue with the continuity of this season-Tony is on top of the world to begin the season, then he is a gambler and looses everything, then he is hated by his friends, then loved again and the degenerate gambling just simply disappears. Episode to episode the strings just were never tied together. We focused on AJ all season long-a plot that I think should have been secondary to the main storyline-tension between NY and NJ. On that note, Phil Leotardo should never have been killed-he was on top of the world, controling all of NY and NJ, almost unlimited power, and "loyalty" of his soldiers-when did they suddenly have a change of heart? The NY crew had no reason to let Phil get killed, he was doing more for them then any other NY mob boss. Horrible writing and a cliff hanger ending-sure we get to see what Tony sees, but I agree with most people, Chase is a genius-not in a writing, but in marketing. Sopranos the movie, 8 years of loyalty for a sub par ending-genius.

I heard on the radio that after the premiere of Chris in Cincinatti Tony gets whacked but I didn't see that so I can't corroborate it. There are only rumors right now I don't believe that but the ending could have been better. I think it should have been Tony get whacked as Meadow walks in.

Phil wasn't the mob boss of NJ, only NY, and he did want the NJ territory from Tony. Atleast that's what all the reviews said PRIOR to this last episode. But yes, I DO indeed smell a movie!! I think the finale was great!! The whole thing with Paulie Walnuts and the cat was hilarioius!! I LOVED IT!!

Noted, BUT, David Chase is not a purveyor of the neat and clean. The Sopranos has always been a hodge-podge, you know, like real life; ups and downs, and unexpected events.

I think Phil got dead because he wanted to take out another boss. That is a veritable "no no" in their world.

I really thought that Chase was vintage Chase all the way through this season including the finale.

Furthermore, we're not even sure that it IS the end are we?

Don't stop believin'.

I miss the wacky Mercedes saleslady(?) she was hot and a strong character. But, what would I know anyway. I had to drop HBO awhile ago. I thought the Departed movie lacked something as well. I think the writers should get some better tips from real mobsters and the public. One of my favorites had to be when Paulie went to the psychic, it was just too funny. Maybe the movie can have alternate endings?

It wasn't an ending. It was left to the audience to decide what happened to Tony and his family. It was suspenseful and nothing happened which is why it bites but it's also genius at the same time since the whole country is talking about the show. There may be a movie coming out.

I hear you. What was the point of the goth kid a few episodes back? Never saw him b4, never saw him again. And the rush to get AJ settled in the last episode? Tony finally understanding Meadows decision to become a lawyer? All in the last minutes? Gimme a break.

The ending is to be decided by each viewer. David Chase ripped off the ending from Frank Stockton's "Lady or the Tiger" short story!

I love the ending.......so typical of Chase. Personally I would have shown the duck returning to the pool after the black out!!
