I don't think it was Paulie, I think it was the guy sitting at the counter, who looked very much like Phil Leotardo's nephew from a previous episode. As far as Carmela being the only one knowing where they all were meeting for dinner, not true. When Carmela told AJ they were going to Holsten's, AJ might have mentioned it to Little Carmine, who he's working with (who also worked for Phil Leotardo). This info was passed on to Phil's nephew, who wanted revenge, which may explain why he entered the diner right in front of AJ, cause he followed him; but instead of looking as if he were following him, he entered first. I think the focus on AJ for most of the episode all comes down to that final moment, where AJ was set up with that job so Little Carmine could get close enough to Tony Soprano to know where he was to kill him.

Well, Tony didn't die in the finale, so your idea, while an interesting one, isn't what actually occurred. Tony made Paulie Captain of one of the crews, and at first Paulie didn't want to take it because he's superstitious and the other guys who came before him in that role were all killed, but Tony pointed out that he has to live his own life, and Paulie finally accepted.

Personally I wanted Paulie to get whacked before the end. Oh well.

I thought the series finale tonight was terrible. I've been watching since the 1st episode and the series ended with a wimper. These last 9 episodes were lame, it was almost like some one other than David Chase took over the show.

First... OF COURSE OF ******* COURSE 'T' GOT WHACKED!!!
second... it was Paulie... no-one else! (yeah it was that guy at the bar, who goes to the gents, who im certain has been in another scene in the series... but Paulie sanctioned it, and took over)

no i don't think so. who else knew that they where going to that restaurant? it was carmella's idea... hey maybe it was furio, bc when he got to back to the old country and professed his love for carmella s1 (i can't remember who) told furio in order to be with carmella he would have to kill her husband.
