I feel your frustration. The writers seemed, in my opinion, to be too attached to the characters or that they were uncertain to how the public would think of Sopranos if everyone died in the restaurant. They left it open ended so that some may see the glass half-empty and think that those suspicious individuals would start a shoot out and kill everyone. Others may see the glass half-full and think that it was nothing or that it would of worked out in the end.
Personally I feel cheated from the ending overall. I even thought that there was something wrong with the cable when it just blanked out like that.

I thought the series finale tonight was terrible. I've been watching since the 1st episode and the series ended with a wimper. These last 9 episodes were lame, it was almost like some one other than David Chase took over the show.

Th edirector is known for not following formula or expectation. I suppose you could say he weaseled out of deciding how to end it, or that he just let everyone come up with their own ending.

I think they want to go down in history for having the most idiotic ending in episodic TV history.
Or, they are going to have another season.
Tonight was, in one word: BORING.

Obviously based on what I have read HERE, the writers ending did EXACTLY what they wanted it to------EVERYONE is talking about it------Everyone says it was cheezy, and everyone is now waiting for MORE..... so, I bet you WILL see more----but the affect they wanted, THEY GOT----you are AL talking about it...

Tony dies, they dont show it, but they show a guy coming out of the wash room at the end, 1 guy leaving the restaurant aka an accomplice, and meadow runnng into the restaurant frantic, they say when you die from a gunshot to the head you dont hear the pop, and everything gos blank.

It was to **** everybody off,and lead us to no conclusion....
Great way to end 8 years of a terrific show
