What are the top five albums released in the 20th Century?
The Absolute Bedrock of Rock Music?
The Foundation On Which All Rock And Metal Is Built?
My Opinion
The Rolling Stones-Let It Bleed
The Beatles-The Beatles
Led Zeppelin-Zoso
Black Sabbath-Paranoid
Pink Floyd-Dark Side Of The Moon
Not asking for your favorites but which albums are the most classic and influential.
Thank You

Here's my list of bands that deserved more than the very few hits they had or deserve to be recognized for more than the one or two songs people know:

Count 5, Standells, Devo, Alice Cooper, 13th Floor Elevators, Yardbirds, T.Rex (in America), Syndicate of Sound, the Sonics ("The Witch" and "Psycho" were small hits in some areas), and The Ramones (too many people think they only sung "I Wanna Be Sedated" then died).

But the crown of the arist with the most overlooked material goes to (drumroll)..... The Kinks. Beyond "Lola" and "You Really Got Me" a lot of people hardly know they exist, when in actuality they produced probably the largest body of exceptional work in the genre, as far as I'm concerned. Should have been much bigger than the Stones as they consistently made good music for more years.

So says I, what say you?

Listening to whole albums or just listening to songs?

I perfer whole albums, but when you're listening to prog, it's hard to get the whole picture when listeing to just a song.

you?

My gut feeling about this is "bad thing". Has been for years now. (since '87 when Nike used the Beatles' "Revolution")

I still don't like it. I mean, take a song like Sly & the Family Stone's "Everyday People" used to sell cars to me, reallly cheapens the songs legacy & original context. Though hey, if Sly Stone needed the cash (he hasn't had a hit since like, 1973), then OK.

But unless a parent or much older sibling intervenes, it seems today's youth are discovering the classics in either or some of these ways:

-self-discovery via Internet
-tv ads
-video games

It's a *little* sad to me, but none of them asked to be born when they were. (like we didn't either)

On the positive side, however, if even ONE kid hears "Black Dog" on some car commercial & it sparks him or her to jump over to iTunes or where ever & get it & in turn, delve further into Zepp's discography, mission accomplished.

What say you?

Da da dat dat duh dat dat DAA
Da da dat duh dat

lol.

Serious, there is a song with no lyrics, just a guitar riff that plays that over and over again. It's very common, but I can never seem to get the name for the song.

Unusual Heat. Released in the early 90's. I think it's one of the best albums ever made, and didn't earn the deserved recognition.

What do you think?

Wow, that was not eloquent at all.....

I have a morbid fear of suburbs (um... yea..... no offense to anyone who lives in suburbs...) and Rush's Subdivisions just put it into words so perfectly why they scare me so much. Gotta love Neil Peart.

So... what song and what subject?
