Wow, that was not eloquent at all.....

I have a morbid fear of suburbs (um... yea..... no offense to anyone who lives in suburbs...) and Rush's Subdivisions just put it into words so perfectly why they scare me so much. Gotta love Neil Peart.

So... what song and what subject?

A few :

Hold Your Head Up (Argent)- I like recommending that tune to others who sound like they could use some encouragement. Esp. in the face of adversity.

Any one of dozens of 60s/70s social equality songs, like Stevie Wonder's "Living for the City' & Sly Stone's "Everyday People".

& of course, Rush's "The Spirit of radio" commenting on the state of commercial radio (at least as it was in 1980, but still holds true today)

Well I am not your average Joe Sarah so these might seem a bit off the wall.
Subject: A lifelong interest in the paranormal and supernatural
Song: I Cheat The Hangman by The Doobie Brothers
If there was EVER a song recorded that perfectly captures the essence of what a ghost is or what a ghost would say or think...This song is it
It never ONCE fails to give Me super-chills and it is soooo
Georgeous and Spooky.
Plus I LOVE moody songs and on the moody scale it scores a10
Subject: The pain of a terrible personal loss
Song: Wreckage by The J Geils Band
It is just like the lyrics were written specifically just for Me. Few songs speak to Me about the most horrible day of My life like this one.
It just reminds Me that some things remain and some things are gone forever.

One time years ago, I was driving past the massive shipyards in Virginia where they built all the new huge Navy ships. The sun was just going down and the sky was hazy oranges and gold with purples on the skyline (Surreal!) Summer was ending and I had just graduated from high school. Anyway, Aerosmiths "Dream On" came on the radio. It was a perfect soundtrack for that moment with the silhouettes of the ships against a perfect summer eve sky. I still think of that moment every time I hear that song. It marked a moment in time were life's promises were wide open like the road I was driving on....

Blackmore's Night - Still Remember You

never fails to bring tears to my eyes as it fits a very personal aspect of my life

On a less personal note, Alice Cooper's Gimme from Brutal Planet fits perfectly in our greedy world (this song reminds me of few years ago in Singapore, when Macdonalds launch their Hello Kitty collection. The furore and fervour it unleashed was a shame to mankind as there was long long queues and scuffles just to get those dolls.

Stairway to Heaven. It always comes on just before I arrive somewhere. Seems that everytime I walked into a particular restaurant, the theme from You Only Live Twice would come on also. The waitresses always had a funny smile when I walked in... Coincidence? Naawww... doan theenk so.

My first husband unilaterally decided to walk out on me and our 9 year old daughter many years back. It was a very tough time for us because of his coldness and vindictiveness, but I listened to a lot of music, danced, and slowly pulled my brain out of the depths of depression. The song that I loved at the time that summed up my feelings was Martin Briley's "Salt in My Tears" in which the refrain goes "but I won't cry for the wasted years, 'cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears." It helped me put things into perspective------that he didn't skip because I was a failure, HE was a JERK!

parents thinking their children aren't good enough, and not being able to accept them for who they are, the pressure that they put on us
Simple plan - perfect

When I feel alone
Green day -boulevard of broken dreams

when i missing my boyfriend, and haven't seen him for awhile
3 doors down - here without you

When I'm a hopeless wreck,
Mariah Carey - we belong together

Whenever i feel like i need more hope
Mariah carey - through the rain, hero
Christina aguilera - voice within

Basically, there's a song for every mood i'm feeling, if i just look hard enough

The effect a girlfriend once had on me. I was really deteriorated at the time.
The Cure
"Prayers For Rain"

you shatter me your grip on me a hold on me
so dull it kills you stifle me infectious sense of
hopelessness and prayers for rain i suffocate i
breathe in dirt and nowhere shines but desolate
and drab the hours all spent on killing time
again all waiting for the rain

you fracture me your hands on me a touch so
plain so stale it kills you strangle me entangle
me in hopelessness and prayers for rain i
deteriorate i live in dirt and nowhere glows but
drearily and tired the hours all spent on killing
time again all waiting for the rain

intense song btw.
