Every six months, (today is one of them) my piano teacher schedules a piano recital for her students. I am one of the last people (3rd to last) to play a song, meaning that I am the third to the best (well, yay). Unfortunately, I ALWAYS get extremely nervous, and I shake a TON as I play, which messes me up. Actually, I am so nervous that I am shaking as I type this.

I am 14 and a half, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend ANY medicine AND/or things to do before I play (like breathing exercises). Thanks!

There are several pieces of classical music that really move me, but now, more than 20 years since I first heard it, Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" still makes me cry. The actual "painting" parts don't get me, but the main theme, which is repeated between the separate paintings, is so moving I still cry when I hear it. I remember thinking once, while listening to it, that the ability to make music which sounds like that must surely be a gift of the highest order.

Is there a piece of classical music which moves you so much you feel absolutely transported when you hear it? If so, what is it?

And please note, I am not asking about contemporary music. I am asking specifically about that which falls into the category of classical. However, classical music with vocals, like Handel's "Messiah" are okay for the purpose of this question.

Thanks for your input.

I can't help shake the vision from the movie Amadeus where the statue crashes through the wall, and yet the two staged versions of Giovanni I've seen live have an actual statue with the actor off stage or at least hidden somewhere so he can supply the voice. Maybe it's just me, but I think I'd prefer an actual live moving statue as opposed to just the voice, even though the costuming would be quite difficult. Does the libretto call for just a voice without the statue actually moving?

I had no clue!!!

Which is why a feminist classical music fan wrote this article:

http://www.womensenews.org/article.cfm?aid=3196

"Test yourself. How many of these 19th century female composers ring any bells with you?

"Amy Beach, Clara Schumann, Louise Farrenc, Augusta Holmes, Emilie Mayer, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel and Alphonsa Le Beau."

Are you familiar with this? Where could I hear recordings of their music, if you are?

I need to write a paper on a composer. Who do you think is the most interesting composer to research? (I don't want to do Beetoven or Mozart, too cliche)

This piece is such an amazing work. Every movement has a little bit of the last one, and each movement gets progressively more complex. Symphony No. 4 is the most complex of his four, and it just amazes me how he could write such intricate music and still make it beautiful. The more i listen to it, the more i love the call and response type of melodies in IV - Allegro energico e passionato-Piu allegro. Any thoughts?

I want to start learning how to play the piano, even though I'm an adult and playing the piano is mostly kids stuff :-)

How does the grading system work? And how do I get examined?

I am inclined to say either Beethoven's 9th Symphony or Wagner's Ring Des Nibelungen.
