that sets them apart from the rest?

F'rinstance, why are Beethoven's concerto's considered so much better than, say, Hummel's? What qualites set Mozart's symphonies apart from Schubert's? And so forth.

More consideration will be given to answerers who employ complete sentences, and more importantly, complete thoughts, with opinions well supported.

As opposed to pop music? Will it cause the mind and spirit to become a bit despondent or will some pieces give a 'high'. Please guide as i am a greenhorn about music. Thanks!

Okay, I have trouble playing piano with rhythms that are different between the hands, for example. Left hand plays a C chord 5 times and right hand plays a totally different rhythm. I have trouble playing them both at the right times cause it is confusing and it messes me up. What techniques can I do to help this problem? Thanks.

I am studying to be an audiologist but I have always loved music and would love to be able to play with a professional orchestra one day. I just wanted to know if it is realistic to hope to one day play with a professional group. I know it takes a lot of dedication, skill and practice. I was just wondering if it is common to see other professionals playing with such groups. Thank you.

I started playing the violin a year ago. My violin is not expensive it around $650. The one I'm planning on getting is $1650 which my mom will be paying. The thing is that if I give my old violin in I will get $550 off the payment. I don't know if I should beacuse it's the first violin I ever had, it might sound stupid but I'm kind of attached to it. So I want to know If I should really buy the new violin? I know someday I will buy another violin but should I try to save money and help my mom with the payment ? Should I give my violin away? The bad thing i s the I only have 1 week to decide this or the offer is off.

I have a chance to either get Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem (with Simon Rattle, Dorothea Roschmann, and Thomas Quasthoff) or Mozart Arias (Magdalena Kozena, Simon Rattle) on CD. Which one should I get?

Ok, so I've just written a song and I think it's a minuet, but I'm not sure. I asked my grandfather, who is a music professor, but he wouldn't tell me. He wanted me to find out on my own. I can't find any definitive information online that would tell me if it is a minuet or not, so I'm going to ask you.

I just need to know what classifies a song as a minuet, scherzo, etc. Thanks!

I never did like the original.
I asked someone if Rimsky-Korsakov had done one, but they said he was too busy rescuing Mussorgsky and that it was impossible to research since all the preliminary research for the original instrumentation is still locked in the vault at the Vienna Staatsoper. Now what do I do.

In addition, it was raining the other night and the label in my violin came loose. That was my last chance at selling it. It was very expensive. Now no one will want to buy it.

I have gas bills, you know. Don't be
cruel.

I don't have a credit card, I don't own a fur coat, and I have to get my oboe out of the repair shop soon or I will never work again. Next time, I will be more careful. Pity sakes!!!

love,
Lakshmi

p.s. Does anyone know how to get a portato out of a cello score? Mine is all messed up. I'm afraid I will never be able to sell it in this condition. Have a heart.

I smashed my oboe, but I am getting it repaired. My only problem is that I do not like to practise more than three hours a day, and I am not able to get all the way through Tristan. I still want a business man's salary though.

The last time I had a symphony job, I was caught chewing gum in the middle of the Liebestod. I don't think I can get another job at my age, do you? I am 35. If I don't get a job soon, I won't be able to pay my oboe repair bill. Do you know how to go about getting married in a case like this?.

I am also having trouble with cross fingering and my exercise book does not even give instructions and I don't trust teachers. Anyone?

It has always been my dream to play in Wigmore Hall, but since there are no rehearsal studios in the vicinity, I am afraid I wont make it to rehearsals on time. I know four pieces of music: Brahms Fourth, The Rite of Spring, The Great Gate at Kiev, and Tristan.
That is plenty, isn't it?

love,
Lakshmi

I have an Acrosonic Baldwin which I love for its size. It's small (has to be - to fit in our apartment), but has a great sound.
One days, I'd love a Steinway =)

I dislike Petroffs in particular (partly because I've had to practice on one with a cracked soundboard).
