i'm looking for a new piece to play on the piano, but i don't know what to pick... any suggestions? i'm aiming for something classical, i like beethoven- my favorite piece is sonatina op. 49 no.2 if anyone knows it. i would like a sonata that's kinda like that but a bit harder, i played that one a few years ago. any suggestions appreciated, thx

Since you like Beethoven, I would suggest Piano Sonata No. 25 in G major "Cuckoo", Opus 79. It is a little more difficult than the op. 49, but you should be able to manage.
On a side note...i hate to be one to criticize others, but some of the suggestions given show a complete lack of knowledge with regard to the right repertoire for a student. I would advise you not to follow the advise of the person above me. Some of those pieces are extremely difficult. Based on what you have said, I highly doubt you are ready to tackle them.
Good luck.

Marie, you might like to take a look at the Sonata in c-minor, op.10 no.1. It'll stretch you a little -- the last movement is compact but it poses a number of interesting problems -- but technically it does rather continue where the op.49s left off, with the added interest of some vintage youthful Beethoven's c-minor drama and grit.

Might as well get the entire collection of the 32 Beethoven sonatas. Would you believe - Barnes and Noble has a decent Hungarian edition at a decent price. Also, check out Dover books - their editions are usually clean and on good paper - but I cannot recall right now who the editor is. When I went to college ( dinosaurs roamed the Earth . . ) I used Tovey - the gig old heavy guys. But you should be able to find a good collection, which you will have FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!

cub cur's choice is a good one
You might try also Beethoven's first sonata -- in f minor
Mozart has some nice sonatas. There is one in F major -- I cannot remember the K number but it is a later one .
And Mozart wrote a real charmer called Rondo in a minor -- not technically challenging but musically challenging.

Learn Golliwog's Cakewalk!
Prior experience (though not my own) would seem to suggest that it's not hard to learn, but it's really fun =) great for social setting I would imagine.
