I smashed my oboe, but I am getting it repaired. My only problem is that I do not like to practise more than three hours a day, and I am not able to get all the way through Tristan. I still want a business man's salary though.

The last time I had a symphony job, I was caught chewing gum in the middle of the Liebestod. I don't think I can get another job at my age, do you? I am 35. If I don't get a job soon, I won't be able to pay my oboe repair bill. Do you know how to go about getting married in a case like this?.

I am also having trouble with cross fingering and my exercise book does not even give instructions and I don't trust teachers. Anyone?

It has always been my dream to play in Wigmore Hall, but since there are no rehearsal studios in the vicinity, I am afraid I wont make it to rehearsals on time. I know four pieces of music: Brahms Fourth, The Rite of Spring, The Great Gate at Kiev, and Tristan.
That is plenty, isn't it?

love,
Lakshmi

ROFL thanks for the laugh. Amazing how many people here don't get parody. If you click on my face over there and check out some of my questions you'll see that I often monkey around like you do.
I have a solution for you: Learn rock guitar and join a rock band! You don't have to rehearse because that stuff is so easy. You can smash your guitar or even an oboe as much as you like, you can chew gum AND sing at the same time, and if you get famous you can marry supermodels with no brains!
Then later you can hire the LSO to do the "Symphonic" versions of your greatest hits.
I'll be at a chamber music recital that night sorry - unable to attend.

If you dont want to practice as much as you can, you shouldnt be a musician my friend! I play guitar and practice on average 8 hours a day, i would do more but my body wont let me. The only way you will get into a good orchestra is if you have the determination and drive to be the best you can be... and how do i do that?! i hear you say!... you practice! I know its a bore and very time consuming, but its the most important part of being a musician, its the only way to progress. And to smash your instrument shows to me you must have been very fruastraited or annoyed, i get that too, its normal. Just go to a rehersal and be the best you can. Peace.

Get a day job and practice at night till you're ready to play for the symphony. Think of practicing as your 'real' job, and work at it faithfully.
Move close to a rehearsal studio, and find a teacher you can trust.
Don't marry for money. There's a word for that, and it's not nice. Starts with p.

first of all, you don't sound the slightest coherent, let alone being honest. anyone who has a common sense and knows anything about getting a job in an orchestra can see that your real problems has more to do with your mental state.
