Long before television dived to the depths of Survivor and Big Brother there was a great band named Survivor (actually there was also a previous band named Survivor - talk about missed copyright infringement!). They released "Eye of the Tiger", Burning Heart, Moment of Truth, and had a little unheard gem called Rebel Girl...

I've just been having one of those random, let's see what comes up hours on You Tube, which eventually took me to listening to a few old Dire Straits, or more particularly, Mark Knopfler, guitar solos.

I was wondering how many Answerers out there would even remember Dire Straits, let alone remember, that the lead singer and lead guitarist was Mark Knopfler.

Such great songs as 'Sultans of Swing', Brothers in Arms' and "Romeo and Juliet" all were penned by this rock genius, but I for one, haven't heard much from him for some seven years now - since 'Philadelphia' was released in 2000.

So - a question for those that read this - was Mark Knopfler one of the worlds greatest guitarists? Did he have a truly unique tone and delivery so good, it made you stop, listen and maybe cry? My own view is that he did. A truly wonderful musician, with a unique style, instantly recognisable after hearing only a few seconds of music.

Am I right, or maybe just holding on too tight to the 80's?

I can't really fully explain what I'm looking for. But I can give a couple examples of songs. I want rock, country or rap songs. The couple examples are: Behind Blue Eyes (The Who), Thug Holiday (Trick Daddy) and Mama Said (Metallica). It's a weird combination, but I "feel" these songs when I listen to them. I just need more along the lines about losing people, struggling through life, things holding you back from achieving your goals etc...help me out please!

I heard the song Common man by John Conlee on the radio about a week ago and really really liked it. I've been a country fan for quite some time and had never heard of him before I bought his classics cd today and it is really good. When was the last hit he had and why haven't I heard of him until now?

In the 1950's, Elvis Presley probably was the act of the decade. You can argue with me on this, but that's not the point. However, the Beatles were definitely the biggest musical act in the world in the 1960's. By the 70's, the Beatles went their separate ways, and I'm guessing either ABBA or Led Zeppelin took over. Michael Jackson ruled the 80's, especially with the release of Thriller. Michael Jackson may also be the biggest act of the 90's too, but Nirvana's Nevermind did sell a lot, not to mention after Cobain's death, Nirvana remained a constant presence in rock radio even until now. But with the decline of the music industry, it's hard to tell which act is the biggest. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have sold an impressive 16 million albums worldwide with their two albums from the current decade. The White Stripes had a show that sold out in twelve minutes. So which musical act is the biggest in the world starting from 2000?

*Note: This is not about the best act.

I took drum lessons several years ago for a short time. I've been wanting to start again. I don't want to buy a drum set just yet...I'm hoping to move in the next 6 months...and don't want to have to move it. I would like to get some sticks and atleast start working on learning some beats. Does anyone have suggestions on what sticks I should get? Also, any suggestions on what I should pratice on? Thanks in advance!
