She would need to talk to a recording studio to make the CD, then, she would have to distribute it herself

It is very easy to head into a recording studio to make a CD. There are enough small ones around that she should be able to do it rather cheaply... or she could purchase software such as Cakewalk, Acid, Pro Tools, or the like and do the music on her own, and send the music to a professional studio to master. Once she has the music done, and she is happy with it, then it is a simple matter to get the CD's made from a duplication service (there are enough of them around, that a Google search would produce great results). Then she can put her CD's into the local music shops, guitar shops, etc. She will be hard pressed to find a chain store that will put a CD into the stores, as she has no backing, and no way for them to ensure sales.
Another suggestion is for her to purchase the indie bible, which will tell her thousands of places that will play her music, sell her music, and review her music, even though she is not a signed artist.

Well first she'll have to apply for and pay for what's known as a UPC permit. It's the whole bar code/scanner thing. For example, her base numbers are 777
CD #1 will be listed as 777-00000001
CD#2 as 777-00000002

and so forth...

This will solve the problem of stores being able to enter it into their inventory. This will solve her problem of being able to market it, distribute and sell it and later on she will be able to upload the sales information to ....oh, ASCAP for example I can't remember the exact names (ASCAP is a songwriters association) I think its like the American Recording...something or other who compiles statistics which are then used to determine what the actual vs. percentage album sales are. This is how a song or an album is rated on the industry charts. It is also how the industry determines that an artist has had a gold record, a platinum, and if you're Mariah Cary..."diamond."

I don't have my books with me right now but if you need more info then email me. Good luck to both of you!

She should cut a demo, burn the cd's and ask a local record store if she could have like a mic night or something where people come in and she's playin.

Thats my brother's channel on youtube

He's not made a music CD, but he is the first ever person to make, produce and distribute a full length CGI film on DVD single handedly.

You can contact him through his youtube channel and he may be able to give you some pointers?

If she performs them as well, she can just rent some studio space and cut her own CD. Hire a mixer and a sound engineer for the day.

you should go to a record company and ask about making a cd. then they will try to put it on the market. if that is not what you want, you should go to a coffee shop or barber shop- thats where the jonas brothers were discovered- and see what you can do.

Maybe she could approach Starbucks' Hear Music or their new record label- it's possible that they could be open to sign fresh new artists
