I can't really fully explain what I'm looking for. But I can give a couple examples of songs. I want rock, country or rap songs. The couple examples are: Behind Blue Eyes (The Who), Thug Holiday (Trick Daddy) and Mama Said (Metallica). It's a weird combination, but I "feel" these songs when I listen to them. I just need more along the lines about losing people, struggling through life, things holding you back from achieving your goals etc...help me out please!

Just A Moment - Nas.
M.I.A - Avenged Sevenfold
Keep Holding On - Syleena Johnson
Keep Holding On - Slum Village

That's all I can think of.
MIA is more of the soldiers in the army.
I think the best of those is Just A Moment. :)

Check out Leonard Cohen, Willie Nelson and old mister Slow Hand to name just three. You can get enough from them to last a lifetime and then some but many are buried under analogies, hyperbolas and other poetic devices.

Try Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman Album - particularly Father & Son...some pommy boy band did a cover of it a few years back. Strange that I clicked onto your question - I am also seeking answers or direction...or something to purge myself of my never-ending state of melancholy.

um.
-"it's hard to say" by the used. i think it it about the lead singer's pregnant girlfriend dying from and overdose..
there are provavly much more by the used that are meaningful but that was the only one i could remember off the top of my head..

(the rest of the songs all below are by my chemical romance)
these are about death:
-"helena" by my chemical romance. this is about the death of the lead singer's grandmother
-"cemetery drive" about the death of a friend?
-"the ghost of you" about loseing someone
-"cancer" about someone having cancer and is about to die
-"skylines and turstiles"- about the 9/11 attacks
-"demolition lovers" about showing how much you love your partner and dying together

these songs are about love/not being loved by the one you love
-"cubicles"
-"early sunsets over monroeville"
-"i don't love you"

these songs are about battling you're fears etc
-"headfirst for halos" about feeling suicidal but trying to think about the good things in your life instead of just the bad.
-"this is the best day ever" about the lead singer's drug/alcohol addiciton causing him several trips to the hospital and how when he leaves the hospital it will be the best day ever.
-"honey this mirror isn't big enough for the two of us" about the lead singer's former girlfriend trying to tell him not to do drugs and how to live his life so he's basically saying f*ck you..
-"desert song" about the lead singer's drug and alcohol abuse and how if he hadn't gotten clean and sober, he might have been dead.
-"bury me in black" about the lead singer's anger for a former drinking buddy that stopped drinking with him

thses are about teenage life sorta (friendship, siblings, school, etc)
-"our lady of sorrows" about a best friend and having eachothers' back when people are against you
-"teenagers" about adults trying to shape teens' lives
-"famous last words"- about the lead singer's brother (who is also apart of the band) going through a really tough time and almost leaving the band. the lead singer helped him through it.
-"give em hell kid" about teenage pregnancy
-"i'm not okay" about not fitting in, in school.

these are all great songs and because most of their songs are so personal, have emotion and are about many issues, i love their music!
