I cant afford a bass guitar is there a way I can take off the regular 6 strings from my regular guitar and then just add BASS strings, could something like that work?

I want to convert an electric bass into a piccolo bass (thinner gauge strings, one octave higher than normal bass, same as 4 bottom strings of guitar); to do that, I know I'll have to install a new nut to maintain string stability. Is it something that could easily be done, or should I have a professional do it? Also, would it be very expensive?

I mean they made movies about many singers like: Johnny Cash, Jim Morrison, Ray Charles, etc.., but why nobody ever made a movie about "The King"??what a shame!!
