Don't do it.. Bad idea.. There are a ton of risks here. You could put too much tension on your neck and ruin it. There's a chance your bridge could pull up or warp. You would have to get a new nut or ruin your old one. Even if you did accomplish getting them on there without damaging the guitar, it wouldn't sound right. You will come out better and cheaper just to go find you a junker bass. There are tons of places online that sell cheap basses and you could always check local pawn shops.

Well, what you CAN do is take the bottom 2 strings (the thinnest 2) off your guitar & practice bass that way until you get a bass. There are problems though:
1. The notes on the bass will be exactly an octave lower than on your guitar.
2. A bass is a bigger more physical instrument than the guitar & the strings are much thicker. It'll take a while to make the adjustment when you do buy a bass.
GOOD LUCK...!

No way. I suggest you sell your guitar and then buy a bass guitar. A regular guitar with bass strings (if you can fit the strings) would never sound even close to the cheapest 2nd hand bass guitar on earth.

dude no. Guitar necks are about half the size as a 6 string bass. Also, you can get a new bass on ebay for as much as new strings. I know it doesnt make since, but thats how it works.

Well I wouldn't recommend it, first the strings are a lot thicker than a guitar, so not sure they would fit on the tuning pegs. You could try heaviest gauge guitar strings you can find and just tune as low as you can without the strings going slack.
If you look on craigslist under the barter section.... might be able to trade for a bass. Maybe trade your guitar for a bass.

I don't think that would work very well, the neck isn't long enough and the frets are not spaced right for the bass strings. Have you checked the pawn shops, you might find a deal there. Good luck. Also, the machines are not large enough for the bass strings..

Uhhh, no. Unfortunatly due to the nature of the standard 6 string bridge, the bass strings wont fit because they are way thicker than standard guitar strings. Also, if you try it, you run the risk of warping a headstock, tuners, bridge, etc. Try hitting up ebay or a local pawn shop for a cheap bass.
hope this helps.

Back when I didn't have a bass (had to pawn mine off) I took an octave shift pedal and set it to one octave down while playing my Gibson. Bam! got yourself a poor mans bass guitar! Octave shifts are pretty cheap too, you can get a good one for about $50, which realy isn't that much more expensive than a set of bass strings.

No,because bass strings are much heavier and a guitar is not designed to stand the added tension, also the neck would not be quite wide enough.Better to find an affordable bass, check Amazon.com,or musicians friend.or sell the guitar, but I know that is a last resort.

there are six string guitar bass guitars out there. buy those strings. george harrison did on the song "two of us"
otherwise go presidents of the united states of america style and just play with the top 3 bass strings downtuned. keep looking, you can find used junky basses for a hundred bucks. good luck
