Becasue a lot of band can usually only make it three albums and then they feel obligated to slip up (the Clash, the Stooges, the Who, etc.) so what bands were able to avoid this?
The Kinks made at least good albums well into the 70's, I think the Preservation Acts are where the general concensus is that they went wrong. And they deserve credit for that, so I'll say they had the longest stretch of good albums, with something like 10 albums worth of material ranging from good to perfect.
