Becasue a lot of band can usually only make it three albums and then they feel obligated to slip up (the Clash, the Stooges, the Who, etc.) so what bands were able to avoid this?

The Kinks made at least good albums well into the 70's, I think the Preservation Acts are where the general concensus is that they went wrong. And they deserve credit for that, so I'll say they had the longest stretch of good albums, with something like 10 albums worth of material ranging from good to perfect.

Yes Smiley, this is a very subjective question, I hope it didn't seem like I was stating anything emperically. And I really have to get into Frank Zappa, I had the my record man play a compilation for me once in his store and what I heard sounded intriguing, but that's all I've really heard.

The Adicts I think I can agree with, although I haven't heard everything they've done, they're on my list of bands to look into still.

Bad Religion is a good one, hell, I even liked Into The Unknown if we're being honest here. I think the albums without Brett Gurewitz were really the lows, but they've stayed pretty consistently good. I hear the new album is great as well.

The Ramones I can kind of agree with. I don't think they have any downright bad albums really, but the first four definately set a standard that wasn't quite met again.

I guess we'd have to define "good'. One person might like 'Sandinista', 'The Who By Numbers', 'Raw Power', 'The Weirdness', or 'Misfits', while the next person might have a dislike for them.

I'll say Frank Zappa, simply because he released more albums than practically any other band/artist, and I'd only consider two of them not being up to par with the rest of his catalog. So that makes around 58 "GOOD" albums over a 27 year period...

From Led Zeppelin I to In Through the Out Door, I don't think Led Zeppelin has released a bad album. Granted, some were better than others, but never an actual BAD album.

** Cat Stevens also has a pretty impressive discography.

I can't agree more that Preservation is where the Kinks went astray. Oddly enough they turned right around a few years later with great stuff like Soap Opera, which by all rights should've been awful but is just wonderful. For a string of solid albums I'd look toward Madness, Squeeze, XTC perhaps.

Led Zeppelin :~ 5/6 {possibly even 7}

Stevie Nicks :~ 4, possibly 5 {depending on opinion}, and the 6th was a great comeback

Jethro Tull :~ 6 {others may say 8, but it depends on whether or not you like Passion Play [7]}

I suppose, really... The Beatles had the longest run.

I think The Doors had consistently good albums, all of them..
Like, their debut, The Doors was amazing, with some of their most famous songs, The End, Light My Fire, Break On Through..

Then with Strange Days, the music did have a 'stranger' twist to it, but still was equally good..

Waiting For The Sun - Maybe not one of their BEST,arguably the weakest of all, but still a good album, with a different twist to it..

The Soft Parade - Criticized at the time for being to commercial but I disagree!!!A really experimental album - that worked..Like Runnin' Blue was completely different type of song for them, and the Soft Parade(the song) is excellent!

Then Morrison Hotel, an entirely new Doors, (in comparison to the last two albums), with a real blues beat to it..
Same with L.A Woman..

Although I don't like all of their songs, I can't fault them on a whole album, I think they were all good!
