Is it to keep my attention? I find it's derogatory but I can't explain why. It's as if they think I'm so stupid they have to say my name to remind me mid-sentence that they're still talking to me.

I read the expression in a book and have a slight idea of what it means, but I would like to know for sure. I think it means you're okay, no lasting damage. Can anyone give me a more precise meaning, or is that it?

I know that it stands for "Identification", but when I see "I.D.", What does that "D" stand for? If you get pulled over by a cop, and he asks for some I.D., can I say "My I.D.? Oh, do you mean my Identification Dentification"?

I'm sorry, I'm in a silly mood! It may be just another one of those things that doesn't have an explanation in the English language. Just curious for an answer, if there is one. I hope at least it brought about a laugh! Thanks and take care....
